2018 Matching Grant Challenge

Some of our generous supporters are challenging you to give to Piercing Word in the months of June and July through a Matching Grant Challenge! All donations given during this time will be matched up to $42,000! This will enable us to disciple and train more full-time interns, bring on more Piercing Word missionaries, buy a 15 passenger van for all of our tours, and do more Outreach Scripture Performances at homeless shelters, nursing homes, schools, prisons, and more! Lives are being transformed by the Word of God!

We are one month into our Matching Grant Campaign, and we are so excited and thankful for all of you who have already given towards this campaign. Thank you for your partnership in ministry! If you have not participated yet, there is still time to get involved. This is a huge year of growth for Piercing Word, and we want to invite you to be a part of it.

From our audiences to our actors and interns, from our summer campers to our staff, PEOPLE are being changed by the Word of God! People are the reason we need your help!

Will you join with us in igniting passion for the Word of God in the heart of the church? Thank you for your support of Piercing Word in prayer and finances! May the Lord richly bless you!

In Christ,
Aaron House
Executive Director

Meet our current IGNiTE interns!
Brad Myer is very excited to join the Piercing Word team as an IGNiTE intern! Born and raised in Lancaster, PA, he is a recent high school graduate. He has been performing in local professional and community theatres since age seven, including Sight and Sound Theatres, Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre, Cavod Theatre, Lancaster Bible College, and Servant Stage Company. Brad has also performed previously with Piercing Word in their productions of James, 1st John, Jonah, and Christmas Through the Ages. As an intern, he will be performing in Ecclesiastes, Sermon on the Mount: The Musical, and Jonah, as well as other Scripture Performances. He is very thankful for this opportunity to grow as an actor and serve the Lord with this outstanding ministry.
Lizzy (Elizabeth) Steele is thrilled to be a Performance Intern with Piercing Word this summer! She is currently studying Theatre Studies and Elementary Education in Baltimore, MD, where she was born and raised. She has been performing in full-scale Musical Theatre productions since age 7 and she is now embarking on a mission to learn how theatre can be used in ministry to reach the lost and speak God's love to both the saved and the unsaved. She is recently engaged and is planning a wedding for summer 2019. Lizzy attends the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Annapolis (PCA) in Annapolis, Maryland and her favorite pastimes include singing with the National Christian Choir, volunteering in her community, and spending quality time with loved ones and new friends.
Pilisa Mackey is so excited to be working for Piercing Word as a Performance Intern this summer! She is currently a sophomore student at Lancaster Bible College pursuing a BFA in Musical Theater. Her previous credits include The Bird Woman in LBC's Mary Poppins as well as Guard 1 in The Magic Flute this past April. Currently, when she is not working hard in rehearsals and planning for this internship, she is a part of the Hunchback of Notre Dame Musical currently playing at the Fulton. She is originally from Maryland, and this is her first summer in Lancaster. She is grateful to the Piercing Word Staff for giving her a chance to glorify God with performing arts!
Audition to perform with Piercing Word or join us behind the scenes! Now accepting applications for Stage Managers, Audio Techs, and Administration Volunteer team.

Thank you Businesses and Individuals for Shaping Lives Through Your Partnership!

We Value Business & Individual Partnerships
The Ways Businesses Help Change Lives
Dear HMS parents, ,

The winning golf foursome at the 2018 Friends of HMS Golf Tournament was (l to r): Hinkletown Mennonite Alum Nathaniel Martin, Tim Martin, Ted Maack and Jimmy Plessinger.
Thanks to All Golfers and
Sponsors who joined Us!

Last Tuesday, a misty rain shower at registration time gave way to a humid, but beautiful afternoon at Bent Creek Country Club. Our generous golfers and sponsors helped us raise over $13,000 toward student and scholarship programs at HMS!

We are very fortunate to have the regular support of donors and friends of the school.  Those who play and sponsor golf, provide direct gift support through tax-deductible giving, support scholarship programs through EITC/OSTC, donate to our annual auction and engage with student programs for service make a difference.  In addition, business and community leaders who partner in student programs through job shadowing
and internship programs with our new high school Venture Program all ma
ke a meaningful impact on students' education and personal development.

EITC Renewals Through Friday, New Applicants July 2!

HMS students serve in the community each spring to assist with grounds maintenance and other service projects at local organizations.

The Educational Improvement Tax Credit program (EITC) and its companion, the Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit program (OSTC), are two great ways to support school choice in Pennsylvania. Business gifts through these programs fund scholarships for more than half the students at HMS.  You can touch dozens of students' lives next year through your business!

To renew participation,  you can re-apply online through June 29
at the
DCED website.  Through you, students are learning and living God's purposes.

New participants should submit applications on July 2, 2018. See more details below and in news announcement.

See this instructions fact sheet for more program and application information.  Your CPA should already be familiar with this program, but if not, feel free to contact me for assistance.  Also, the 2018 tax law increases potential benefits some business may realize from participation in these popular (and limited) tax credit programs.

Thanks for your consideration of this and other creative options that enable Hinkletown Mennonite School to impact student lives and their futures!

Gratefully yours,
Jody Fausnight

P.S.  Check out a few HMS Alumni Snapshots that tell their stories of living out God's purposes.  We also received great news just this morning from Vivian Mast at Faithbuilders Scholarship Services (see below).
Governor Wolf Signs Budget Expanding Business Tax Credits for Scholarships

On June 25, we received word that Governor Tom Wolf signed the 2018-2019 budget. The good news is this budget includes a $25 million increase in K-12 funding under the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program. This is a significant increase!

While this is a considerable increase, it is unsure whether this increase is large enough to provide credits for all applying businesses. It does mean that new businesses who file on July 2 have a very good chance of being approved this year.

If you know of interested businesses, now is the time to apply, but the window is very small.  All applications need to be filed on July 2.

If a business chooses to use our filing services, (learn more when visiting
https://www.fbep.org/ministries/fbscholarship/donors), applications need to be received at the Faithbuilders office by Friday, June 29 at 5:00. We cannot guarantee a July 2 filing for applications received after this.

For those interested, the total funds now available (to support private/parochial school choices) through educational tax credits is as follows:
  • $110 million for EITC K-12 (up from $85 million in 2017-18)
  • $12.5 million for EITC Pre-K
  • $50 million for OSTC

Venture Program & Enrichment Clusters Offer Unique Partnership Opportunities with Businesses

The HMS Venture Program, for grades 9-12 students, continues the faith-based, hands-on and individualized instruction that HMS is known for, plus much more!

Missions trips, internships and the chance to study at your own pace are also included in a program that helps students prepare for vocational and/or college placements.

Entrepreneurship & Careers Cluster students interact on a factory tour with Sheldon Horst, President of Premier Custom-Built Cabinets.
