As my cousin and I were navigating our way through a crowded street, from the southwest to the northeast of Saigon, we were very happy that friends of my cousin, a family of three had made a decision to believe in the Lord Jesus. However, it looked like we would be late for our next meeting because I didn't realize the distance between the two places was so far. This was the last evening before I was heading home to the U.S. Normally, I would not go to any place or talk to anyone on the last evening of our trip. But seeing the sincere request from Pastor and Mrs. Khoa asking me to come to their outreach at a small motel near the Cancer Hospital north of the city, I could not say no. They told me my job was to meet the owner of the place and lead her to the Lord. The owner is a nice person, but she always walks out every time Pastor Khoa begins to talk about Jesus.

We got to the place about fifteen minutes late. But that fifteen minutes late made the difference! An unexpected crowd of about sixty adults and children from a nearby motel came to join us because they wanted to hear about Jesus. Many children who were under chemo treatment and their parents stayed at the motel. Mrs. Khoa invited them in, but they did not go in right away. They went back to the other motel and invited everyone they knew to come with them to hear about the Good News.

We came in at the right time when all the people began to sit down and were ready to hear the message. I scanned from left to the right, as all eyes were fixed on me. Suddenly a sense of compassion rose inside of me, and tears began to collect in my eyes. The short sermon I planned went out the window. My heart was moved to see the bright hopeful eyes of the children and the parents fixed on us. I realized this was how the Lord Jesus had compassion for the crowds in many instances (Matthew 14:14…).

And at the same time, I saw myself as a child in the crowd and I knew that I need Him. My mouth opened up with the words of John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His One and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." We all know about God in Heaven, and I am called to be here today to tell you this Good News that Jesus is God of the Heavens, and He came down to this earth so we could connect with Him and live with Him.

I was sixteen when I made this declaration to Him: "Dear Lord Jesus, I am Nguyen Thanh Tuyen. I believe in You today. You are my Lord and my God…I believe that You died for me and you rose again by the power of God. Please save me…" As I shared my experience, the eyes of the children were full of confidence and joy. I sensed that they had the faith to believe so I asked them "Do you want to believe in the Lord Jesus today?" All the children and almost all adults raised their hands. Each one of them made the confession of faith with their names loud and clear. The owner of the place was among the 54 adults and children. Her eyes were beaming when she made the confession of faith. There was a sense in me that many or even all of them would be healed, so I prayed for healing for the whole group.

How does a mission movement start? It starts with the Lord Jesus when we hear His calling. He works out the details; we just have to follow the voice of the Spirit.
