2019 Conference Related Ministries Seminar
Friday, March 29, 2019, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
Garden Spot Village, 433 South Kinzer Ave., New Holland, Pa. 17557

This seminar will bring together local congregations and church related ministries of Lancaster and Atlantic Coast Conferences to discern concrete ways of engaging together to meet the needs of the local communities within which they exist--social, emotional, spiritual, and health-related.

Data from last year's seminar showed that very few pastors are aware or particularly interested in the agencies, but would be moreso if they knew how the agencies might help them fulfill God's mission in their local communities. In other words, both agencies and congregations may be missing an important opportunity to engage God's mission together.

Focus groups were conducted prior to this seminar with agency leaders, and this information will be utilized to further expand the conversation that we began last year when we were together.

Husband-Wife Duo to Exhibit Art at Landis Homes
An art reception was held at Landis Homes on February 5 featuring the work of a local couple, photographer and woodturner, Jim Bowman and potter, Lin Bowman.
The opening reception was held in the Crossings Gallery in the Calvin G. & Janet C. High Learning & Wellness Center at Landis Homes, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz.  Live music was provided by Daryl Snider. The exhibit will continue to be on display through March 25, 2019.  For more information, visit or call 717-381-3550.
Jim purchased his first professional 35mm camera while in college, thereby forging his destiny by what he saw through the lens. Although trained to be a biology teacher, he instead opened a photography studio and began a career of magazine photo illustration. After working over three decades in film and video production and editing, Jim returned to his early life profession.
In 2017, at the age of 70, Jim retired from a formal vocation. Not one to be idle, Jim pursued more intently his visual explorations. The advances with iPhone camera technology have allowed him to capture images immediately when he notices them. At the same time, he again took up wooden bowl turning on a lathe. This activity allows him to shape wood in a free flowing form.
Since retiring from her days as an LGH cardiology nurse, Lin is a part-time granny-nanny for granddaughter Agnes. One of her spare-time pleasures is playing with clay. Recent experimentation with native clays found on the Northeast and Bohemia Rivers in Maryland has taken Lin back to favorite childhood experiences on the Chesapeake Bay. Fish, flowers, and various additional designs seem to find their way into and onto her pieces. They portray a playful simplicity that appeals to the child inside each of us.
The Bowmans, former city residents who now live in Dauphin County, are parents of two adult children who are both artists as well. Lin's mother, Anna Mae Hoober, 106, is the oldest resident at Landis Homes
Both Landis Homes and Welsh Mountain Home are ready to match a variety of talents and skills with new and existing volunteer opportunities. Volunteers partner with staff fulfill the missions of these two Landis Communities affiliates. Persons interested in volunteer opportunities at Landis Homes may contact the Volunteer Services office at 717-509-5409 or email  To learn more about options at Welsh Mountain Home, please contact Melody Jacobs at 717-355-9522 or

Fwd: She found her way home, Gehman Mennonite Church...

Dear Gehman Mennonite Church,

We are a quarter of the way into our campaign to raise funds for our Rental Assistance program, which supports single moms and their children, and we are grateful to our friends who have already joined us. We're hoping you will join us, too!

Recently, I had the opportunity to spend some time with Tiffany and her children in her home. Because of our program's rental assistance, she was able to break the cycle of homelessness, and has been in secure housing for over four years. Watch her story to see how receiving rental support from Good Samaritan Services has changed her life, and be sure to join us in this effort!

We cannot do this without you, so join us today to help us reach our goal of $50,000, so more families like Tiffany's can say, "It's Good to be Home!".
