Partnerships & Innovation Propel Enrollment
Working with Your Business to Help Change Lives
Dear HMS parents, ,

HMS First Day of School 2017-18
Click to watch:
HMS First Day of School 2017-18

We set TWO records at HMS
this year for the FIRST day:

1. Highest enrollment
in school's history at 217.

2. Students in 9th and 10th grade joined us for the High School Venture program.

VENTURE PROGRAM
Our Venture Program is innovative, extending learning beyond the classroom.  It is specially designed to help students discover their God-given gifts and interests as well as ways they can learn through training opportunities, job shadowing and internship programs in local businesses.  The program prepares students for vocational and/or college placements.

The Venture Program also encourages service opportunities and mission/outreach work as part of academic and interpersonal skills development.

BUILDING RENOVATIONS
Walls and doorways moved and appeared in new locations this past summer.  Plans created new spaces for greater enrollment, specifically the Venture program and additional bathrooms for the Early Childhood programs.

See more pictures of renovations work led by members of our facilities committee.

For more information on how Venture Program High School students can discover opportunities for learning outside the classroom within your business or organization, contact Dr. Megan Ament, Program Director at mament@hmsk8.org.
Middle School students kick off the school year with an Orientation Day at Woodcrest Retreat. Mentor group meetings and teambuilding games are part of the day.
A special note of thanksgiving to many donors who provided designated fundsand scholarship dollars.  This year we could expand the mission of HMS beyond our 8-mile bussing radius to include several new students from the Reading City area.

Thanks for your interest and support of Hinkletown Mennonite School!  Together, we are impacting students' lives and their futures!

Gratefully yours,
Jody Fausnight
Director of Advancement

P.S.  Check out a few HMS Alumni Snapshots that tell stories of our alumni living out God's purposes.
Businesses Help Parents
Educate their Children with Intentionality

Parent expressions on why they sought and continue enrollment at HMS:

"I am concerned about what is being introduced to my children at such a young age in the public schools.  I have always prayed for God to create opportunities for us in a school that doesn't choose to settle for mediocrity and [instead] to help steer my children in his plans for them."

"...[I] appreciate all the school is able to do on a limited budget.  Thanks to all the volunteers and sponsors who make that possible for the students today."

"It is also important to me that we have an administrator and board who are very intentional about preparing for the future and communicating with the school community."

"We are thankful that our children are being nurtured spiritually while also receiving an excellent education. There are many opportunities for hands-on learning....the teachers are wonderful and we enjoy coming into the classroom for different activities and field trips."

2017 HMS HinkleFEST and Benefit Auction
Friday and Saturday, October 13 & 14, 2017

Heartfelt gratitude to the many businesses who sponsor, donate goods
or services, and show up to enjoy the fun!

Nehemiah Project Fund Update

In addition to the Nehemiah Project Fund, our spring Chicken BBQ, fundraisers, golf tournament and auction help keep tuition affordable at HMS. All gifts are tax-deductible.
Thanks to all who gave towards our 2016-17 Nehemiah Project Fund!
  • We raised more than $10,000 of new funds in June, which was matched by an additional $5,000 from a special friend of the school.
  • Thanks to gifts like these, prudent fiscal management, business sponsorships and scholarship contributions, including EITC/OSTC/PreK EITC, we were able to end the year within budget!
HMS depends on the generosity of friends and supporters to help keep education affordable for families who value a small school community and strong program that connects faith and learning to life.  Thank you for giving toward that purpose!

Texas Needs
Our Help

URGENT-Help Needed For Texas Hurricane Victims.

Dear Friend

Samaritan's Purse staff and disaster relief units are on the ground in coastal Texas and ready to help homeowners devastated by Hurricane Harvey's ravaging winds and catastrophic flooding.

As I write this, the storm continues to dump rain in the Houston area. Totals could reach up to 50 inches in the coming days. Over 2,000 people have been rescued from their houses. Untold numbers are still stranded. It could take years for the area to fully recover from this.

We are going to need an army of volunteers to help tear out damaged drywall, remove flooring, tarp roofs, and clear debris from flooded homes. Most importantly, we'll be there to show storm victims the love of Christ and share the eternal hope of the Gospel with them.

The people living along the Texas coast desperately need our prayers and help. Would you prayerfully consider joining our volunteer teams as they serve in Jesus' Name to restore hope to these hurting people?

Please continue to lift up the people of Texas in your prayers. May God bless you.

Prayers of gratitude and intercession

August 2017: "Please pray for us and all the victims," writes a leader of the Brethren in Christ church in Nepal). Torrential rain caused flooding and triggered landslides in Nepal, Bangladesh and India. BIC church members in Morang, Sunsari, Jhapa and Dhanusa districts are badly affected. The BIC children's hostel compound and ground floor of the BIC Church office building (which also provides housing) in Biratnagar were flooded and the church compound's walls collapsed. In the aftermath, electrical power was limited and many BIC members sheltered in camps and schools waiting for relief supplies. In India, floods destroyed villages, crops and roads; a leader from the Brethren in Christ Church in Bihar, India, reports that people have taken refuge at the Banmankhi church campus. Read more.

August 2017: America is a dangerous place for activists who defend human rights or natural resources, reports agencies like Oxfam and the UN. Churches are affected when community members who lack safe access to farmland migrate away from their homes. In Colombia, Christian Peacemaker Teams and Justapaz (a Mennonite church organization) support small farming and mining communities where rural residents are affected by armed conflict and resource exploitation. Pray for protection for these people who risk their own safety for the good of wider society. Read more.

August 2017: Praise the Lord for churches who live out an example of peace, breaking the cycles of violence with their witness to the ways of Christ's peace. May our churches have the awareness to counter injustice against those who are marginalized. Pray that the church would continue to draw on the power of the Holy Spirit to grow in its capacity to demonstrate interdependence and love as alternatives to violence. – From Peace Sunday 2017 Worship Resources, click here to see more.
