Fall Leadership Assembly

LMC's Fall Leadership Assembly is planned for Thursday, September 21 (instead of September 16). This assembly is being held in conjunction with the Annual International Missions Association (IMA) being hosted this year by EMM. This is a wonderful opportunity for LMC leaders to interact with and learn from our Global Fraternal partners from around the world.

Host Families Needed for IMA  
EMM is requesting host families for the 20th anniversary gathering of the International Missions Association (IMA) from Sept.19-27. If you are available to host international missions leaders for all or part of this event, please visit this link for more details or contact Jessica Fellenger at jessicaf@emm.org or 717 898-2251 ext. 235.

There is also a need for meal donations for lunch or dinner during the event for the group of approximately 50 people. This is another great way to show hospitality to our international guests.  Interested persons should contact Jessica Fellenger at jessicaf@emm.org or 717 898-2251 ext. 235.

Ministry Trips for IMA  
Over 30 international leaders plan to spend a week with us as part of of the 20th anniversary celebration of the International Missions Association (IMA). Guests are available for weekend ministry opportunities Saturday (Sept. 23) and Sunday (Sept 24).  Opportunities could be meeting with leaders, preaching in a service, sharing stories, answering questions, etc. The goal is for local churches here to build relationships and learn from the experience of our brothers and sisters from around the globe. Inviting churches will be responsible to provide a host family for Saturday night and transportation to and from the Lancaster area.  Please e-mail Troy Landis (troyl@emm.org) if you have questions or are interested in hosting.

For each issue of Shalom News, our editorial team invites a guest team member or team members to sit with us (Brinton Rutherford and Joselyn Santiago) for a 1-2 hour brainstorming/planning session to help shape the theme and articles, and maybe write an article or two.

Swiss-German 1717 Immigrant Journey to Lancaster 
Come along on a field trip retracing the path of the large 1717 group of early immigrants to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The highlight of the trip is sailing the Christina River aboard the Kalmar Nyckel, a replica of the Swedish boat which brought the first European settlers in 1638 to the Delaware Valley. Learn the art of creating natural dyes to color cotton, wool, silk or linen from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 14 at the 1719 Herr House & Museum. Host Families Needed 
2017-2018 School Year  
Two host families are needed for the 2017-2018 school year for two Nigerian high school students (2 different families needed) studying at LMS. Both students (1 boy and 1 girl) are connected to the Mennonite Church in Nigeria and would prefer to stay with families attending Mennonite churches here in Lancaster. The guardians of the students are able to afford a modest monthly payment to offset some of the costs of hosting. Mennonite Children's Choir of Lancaster  
The Mennonite Children's Choir of Lancaster is open to children from all denominations and is sponsored by Lancaster Mennonite School as a service to the community.

The Mennonite Children's Choir of Lancaster is still accepting registrations for Prelude Music (grades 1-2) and Choristers (grades 3-7). These non-auditioned programs meet on Tuesday evenings September through April. Contact mccl@lancastermennonite.org for registration forms.

Parkinson's Support Group Meeting
The next meeting of the Lancaster County Parkinson's Support Group will be held on August 21. "Resilience with Parkinson's Disease," will be presented by Health Educator Guevien Gray from Johns Hopkins, Baltimore. The presentation will be followed by a time of questions and answers. The public meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 21 at 2 p.m. in the Westview Community Room at Landis Homes, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz. Following the meeting will be a time of refreshments and informal discussion. Memory Loss Support Group Meeting 
The next meeting of the Memory Loss Support Group at Landis Homes will be held Tuesday, August 29 at 7 p.m.
in the Warwick Room in the Heritage Memory Support area of Landis Homes. The speaker will be Donna Becker, volunteer chaplain at Landis Homes. She will be sharing about Joy in the Journey. For more information call (717) 581-3939 or

Annual Fellowship Day 
Landis Homes annual Fellowship Day and Chicken Barbecue will be held on Saturday, September 9, with happenings of interest to persons of all ages. The fun begins at 8 a.m. with the opening of the silent auction, market place and yard sale.  
A live benefit auction that begins at 9 a.m. will consist of quilts, antiques, handcrafts, and one-of-a-kind items. Some of this year's quilts include Timberline, Ocean Wave, Starburst Log Cabin, and Bargello Trip.Individuals and businesses donated tops that were quilted by the Landis Homes quilters. The quilt portion of the auction begins at 1:30 p.m.   

This year's art selection has many original and limited edition prints including: Christiane David, Liz Hess, Paris Wyatt Llanso, Lee Lovett, Velma Magill, Kyong Sill Shing, Suk Shuglie, Andy Smith, Julia Swartz, Steve Wilson and more. The art auction will begin at about 10:45 a.m.

Three-day event, September 20-22 
Jim Wallis, president and founder of Washington D.C.- based Sojourners, will join Eastern Mennonite University president Susan Schultz Huxman, and Gonser Gerber development firm partner Doug Mason as featured speakers for the 2017 Everence Development Conference.  
 
The three-day event, Sept. 20-22, is themed Bridge to a Shared Tomorrow and will take place at the Lancaster Penn Square Marriott in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Workshops will offer insights on charitable trends; marketing and donor relations; major, planned and congregational giving; and other charitable topics.

IVEP Host Family Opportunity
Believer is coming to work for Everence through the IVEP partnership program through MCC for approximately one year beginning in the middle of August (click here for the IVEP host information sheet). Believer will be working at 2160 Lincoln Hwy office. Everence is hoping to find a willing host family who would be close to public transportation, which would allow Believer to take public transportation to the Everence office each morning.
