Author Talk: An Uncommon Woman with Mark Kelley

Join Mennonite Life for an evening with Mark Kelley, author of An Uncommon Woman: The Life of Lydia Hamilton Smith on Thursday, October 23, 6:30 p.m. in the Mennonite Life Community Room. Lydia Hamilton Smith was a prominent African American businesswoman in nineteenth-century Lancaster, and the longtime companion of the abolitionist congressman Thaddeus Stevens. An Uncommon Woman explores how Smith served the cause of abolition, managed Stevens' household, acquired property, and crossed racialized social boundaries. This event is complimentary. Find an author bio and registration details at mennonitelife.org/events.

Collections Feature: Froschauer Bible

The Froschauer Bible was the earliest complete German-language Bible, as well as the first German-language Bible to be used widely by Anabaptists. First completed in the year 1529, the Froschauer Bible was not initially intended for an Anabaptist audience, however it was quickly adopted and valued by the movement in its early years. Join Mennonite Life as we continue to commemorate 500 years of Anabaptism at a special Collections Feature showcasing centuries-old Froschauer Bibles Thursday, November 6, 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room. Archivist & Librarian Julia Wiker and guest speaker Isaac Lowry will review the history of the Froschauer Bible's multiple printings and highlight the unique traits of several Bibles owned by Mennonite Life, including family records. This event will not be recorded or live-streamed. This event is complimentary but requires registration. Register at mennonitelife.org/events.

Tours take place Saturday, November 8, 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and are ideal for older youth and adults. Admission is $15 per person. Find information and ticketing at mennonitelife.org/events.

Dear Phil,

15K in 3 Days — Let's Kick Off Thanks4Giving!

We're thrilled to announce that Faithful Give is the official kickoff to our Thanks4Giving End-of-Year Campaign, where our overall goal is to raise $300,000 by December 31 to continue our mission of bringing hope, help, and housing to the people of our community.

But first — we're starting strong with Faithful Give, a powerful 3-day giving event happening October 19–21, and we need your help to reach our first milestone of $15,000.

When you give during these three days, your impact is multiplied through:

  • Stretch pools funded by generous sponsors

  • Prize incentives for organizations with the most support

  • A community-wide celebration of generosity and faith

This is your chance to make a big difference — right at the beginning of our campaign.

Here's how to take action:
👉 Visit faithfulgive.org
👉 Choose REAL Life Community Services
👉 Give generously, pray intentionally, and consider volunteering your time

Together, we can build momentum toward our $300,000 Thanks4Giving goal — and it starts now, with your gift during Faithful Give.

Let's make these 3 days count. Let's reach $15,000. Let's launch a season of generosity that changes lives.

We're incredibly grateful for your partnership.

In hope,
The REAL Life Community Services Team
