Bishop Elders Team Weekly Email

I am surrounded by construction projects! The LMC offices are under construction as we work to create some enclosed offices. There are also construction projects at my home as our son and his family are building a house on some land nearby. Whether at the office or at home, there is visible evidence of ongoing construction. Whether it's the smell of fresh paint, the roar of a saw as the building is framed out, a cement truck in my driveway, or the pfft of an air gun as rafters are nailed in place, it is clear that the landscape is changing.

It can be easy to become impatient when construction schedules are delayed by the supply chain, weather, or when subcontractors are needed elsewhere. However, being surrounded by construction projects has reminded me that I and those around me are also under construction. Every day we can choose whether or not to commit to the ongoing renovation work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Being led by the Spirit and being a follower of Jesus is a lifelong journey. We are always under construction!

Scripture is filled with images of construction projects. From Genesis 1, "In the beginning, God created …" to the Psalmist reminding us in Psalm 139:15 that "Our frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place when I was woven together…" And in Ephesians 2:10 we read that "We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." We are image bearers of Christ Jesus but there is a lot of interior renovation that needs to take place. The Spirit is not in a hurry. The work of renovation can be delayed by our choices but he patiently continues shaping us in the same way the potter shapes the clay until the vessel is fully formed. (Jeremiah 18:1-6).

LMC is being led by the Spirit on a transformational journey to become fully formed disciples of Jesus. There are a variety of tools that are used in this process of transformation. You may have heard us talk about Discovery Bible Study (DBS), Dinner Church, or other fresh expressions of church. LMC also offers STEP, a 3-year leadership training program. In collaboration with EMM, we are developing Radix, an online virtual learning platform. These and other tools are helping to shape and equip us as followers of Jesus.

As a bishop elders team, we invite you to be the fresh aroma of Christ in the areas in which you live, work, play, and learn and to give grace to others as we are all submit to the renovation work of the Holy Spirit. This week, as part of this transformation journey, we encourage you to invite Holy Spirit to show you what it means to "love your neighbor as yourself."
