Tips for congregations new to Shine

1. What if some of the children in our congregation speak Spanish at home?
  • For preschool age children, beginning Fall 2016, the "For families" page in every Early Childhood leaflet will be available in Spanish. Available as a download from the Shine website, this home connection resource will be free, and you can print as many as you need.
  • For elementary age children, Resplandece: Historias de la Biblia para niƱos makes it possible for Spanish-speaking parents to read all the Bible stories in Spanish. Purchase one for every Spanish-speaking family in your congregation.
  • Also for families: "Resplandece: Un plan de leer la Biblia" can be found at (under General Shine Resources).
2. What resources are on Extras webpage? This page is often mentioned in the teacher's guide.
  • The Extras page is a treasure trove of free resources.
  • Some of these resources stay in place no matter what the quarter. You can find instructions for making wooden story figures, play dough, musical instruments, and even for creating a labyrinth.
  • There are links to the Bible memory passages for the curriculum year, to planning intergenerational events, and more.
  • Some resources relate to the particular quarter and age level. Here you will find additional activities, reproducibles (Additional resource pages that can be printed), a letter for families, and the downloadable songs for Early Childhood.
  3. My congregation is considering Shine for the first time. What would be most helpful to do as we make this decision?
  • Order a free preview kit online or by phone: Canada,1-800-245-7894 or U.S., 1-800-441-3712. A kit includes teacher's guides, packs, and student pieces from previous quarters of all age groups and sampler pages of Shine On: A Story Bible.
  • Explore the Shine website, which includes Shine training videos and a session overview.
  • Decide together. To help Christian education committees talk about choosing curriculum, we have created a free Bible curriculum assessment tool. Find it at (under General Shine Resources). This tool for evaluating curriculum highlights what is important in Shine.
