1719 Museum Tour Guide Training

The 1719 Museum seeks community members to guide tours of the Herr House and Lancaster Longhouse in the spring, summer, and fall of 2026. New volunteers are asked to commit to attending all three training sessions and at least one tour date per month during the museum's open season. This is a three-session training course taking place the following dates:

Saturday, February 21, 9:00 a.m. – noon.

Friday, March 6, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Friday, March 20, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

New guides do not need prior experience. Sessions will educate volunteers on topics relevant to leading tours at the 1719 Museum, including Lancaster County's Indigenous history, European Mennonite migration to the area, and techniques for guiding large groups through the museum. First-time guides will also have the chance to meet with current guides.

For more information, and to register, contact Heather Strahin at museum@mennonitelife.org or 717.464.4438.

Saturday Open Libraries

The Mennonite Life Library will be open three upcoming Saturdays: February 21, March 21, and April 18, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The Mennonite Life Museum and museum store will be open as well. All are welcome to visit the library. Use of the library's research materials is complimentary for Mennonite Life members, and $7 per day for non-members. Mennonite Life staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist researchers. Visitors are encouraged to pre-register at mennonitelife.org/events and mention specific research topics in mind.

Intern with Mennonite Life!

Looking for a summer opportunity? Mennonite Life offers a paid summer internship in two areas: the archives and the museum. Our interns work alongside staff members to gain insight into the daily operation of our museum and archive, and receive career counselling and coaching.
