The miracle of unity

How can unity between different nations or communities be achieved? Many methods have been sought since the Tower of Babel times. In that Bible story, the people attempt to achieve unity by having a common vision and a call to work toward the same goal; and as we well know, the endeavour fails.

Prayers of gratitude and intercession

October 2016: As a global church, we pray for our brothers and sisters in Haiti. The Mennonite community in Haiti was affected by hurricane Matthew. Pastor Lesly Bertrand writes: We have two churches in the South that are completely destroyed as well as two others on the central plateau, and hundreds of houses of our church members are destroyed across the country. Two of our pastors are homeless. Once more, we rely on your prayers and understanding! Read more...

October 2016: The Integrated Mennonite Churches of the Philippines ask for prayer for their country. The new president has taken many bold and controversial approaches, polarizing opinions in the church and creating a culture of fear. Pray that local and national leaders would be wise and discerning under pressure from many influences; that people would unite for the sake of their land, for their children and future generations; and for the common welfare and shared future of the people. Pray that the body of Christ in the Philippines will be united in pursuing justice, peace and human rights. May the church overcome through the power of the God of justice and peace, the God of history. Read more...

October 2016: On 31 October 2016 in Sweden, the Lutheran World Federation and the Roman Catholic Church will jointly hold a commemoration of the Reformation, in anticipation of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. Praise God for this joint worship by two world communions. As general secretary César García participates on behalf of Mennonite World Conference, pray that God continues to work on the reconciliation of his church for a better witness to Christ in the world. Read more...

From the Desk of Franklin Graham

  Dear Friend,

Franklin Graham The most critical election of our lifetime is only a few days away. I'm writing to ask you to please make sure you VOTE.

In the last presidential election, it's estimated that 20-30 million Christians stayed home. We can't let this happen again! The future of our nation is riding on this election: religious freedom, the Supreme Court, protecting the unborn and our families, and so much more. The Christian voice needs to be heard on November 8.

In many states, it's still not too late to register, and some allow you to register and vote on the same day. Find out if your state is one of them.

Before you cast your ballot, research the party platforms (in the special Decision election guide) on the issues that are important to you—and above all, pray! When you head to the polls, offer to take your neighbors, friends, and family who may need a ride.

If God's people are silent during "such a time as this" (Esther 4:14, NKJV), I fear for what will become of our once great and blessed nation. What kind of country will we leave for our children and grandchildren?

Let's pray together that our nation will turn back to God and that He will heal our land.

Sincerely,

Franklin Graham

P.S. Will you join me in prayer live on Facebook at 9 p.m. ET on Nov. 7? Encourage your loved ones to pray with us, too, by sharing this graphic on social media:

Information for leaders and congregations
October 19, 2016

These bi-weekly UPDATES are shared so that leaders and congregations are aware of events and information taking place in LMC, agencies, fraternal organizations, congregations, and the broader church. These announcements are for your information and to share with others in your congregation through email, weekly bulletin, monthly newsletter, Sunday morning announcements, church website, or Facebook. Use your discretion and share what your congregation will find helpful.

LMC Office Events & Information
LMC Legacy Foundation Formation Update
A bit over a year ago, WellSpan Health and Philhaven signed an affiliation agreement bringing the two organizations together with a shared mission and vision to improve the behavioral health of the community. Earlier this year, the affiliation was given the required regulatory approvals to move forward.

In the transition, Lancaster Mennonite Conference granted its approval to transfer control of Philhaven, and all its assets, from the conference to WellSpan Health. In turn, WellSpan, agreed to contribute a total of $7.26 million to enable the Lancaster Mennonite Conference to create and operate a new charitable foundation named the LMC Legacy Foundation. The purpose of the Foundation is to assist Lancaster Mennonite Conference (LMC) to continue its vision of "finding a better way" to promote hope, healing and wholeness through integrative behavioral healthcare resources that nurture mental health, resilience and innovation.

A governing board has been named to lead the LMC Legacy Foundation. Governing board members are: Jim Herr, Phil Hess, Carl Horning, Larry Newswanger, Deborah Saline, Janet Stauffer, and Keith Weaver. Currently, the board is working with legal counsel to set up the Foundation as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. North Group Consultants is assisting the board in the development of policies and procedures.

Once established, the LMC Legacy Foundation will be funded by WellSpan Health and will begin functioning as a ministry of LMC under the direction of the governing board. It is likely that the Foundation will not be in operation before June 2017. Please feel free to direct questions to the Board Chair, Phil Hess, at phess05@wellspan.org or 717-273-8871.

Attention Pastors, Bishops, and other Church Leaders!
Do you know someone in your congregation or district who might be interested in a church multiplication effort?

Are you personally interested in exploring church multiplication effort?

If yes to either or both of the above, please forward those names and contact information to the LMC office ASAP.

LMC staff is eager to work with interested persons to find practical ways to encourage and support church multiplication. This would start with a brief personal conversation with you or anyone you might identify.

It's Pastor Appreciation Month

Find a special way to say thanks to your pastor or pastoral staff, and their families for the hard work, dedication and multiple blessings provided by these special people.

  • Jesus followers need to hide their faith when relating to Muslims.
  • Muslims are inaccessible or unapproachable.
  • Muslims already have faith and don't need the gospel.
