LMC Legacy Foundation Formation Update A bit over a year ago, WellSpan Health and Philhaven signed an affiliation agreement bringing the two organizations together with a shared mission and vision to improve the behavioral health of the community. Earlier this year, the affiliation was given the required regulatory approvals to move forward. In the transition, Lancaster Mennonite Conference granted its approval to transfer control of Philhaven, and all its assets, from the conference to WellSpan Health. In turn, WellSpan, agreed to contribute a total of $7.26 million to enable the Lancaster Mennonite Conference to create and operate a new charitable foundation named the LMC Legacy Foundation. The purpose of the Foundation is to assist Lancaster Mennonite Conference (LMC) to continue its vision of "finding a better way" to promote hope, healing and wholeness through integrative behavioral healthcare resources that nurture mental health, resilience and innovation. A governing board has been named to lead the LMC Legacy Foundation. Governing board members are: Jim Herr, Phil Hess, Carl Horning, Larry Newswanger, Deborah Saline, Janet Stauffer, and Keith Weaver. Currently, the board is working with legal counsel to set up the Foundation as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. North Group Consultants is assisting the board in the development of policies and procedures. Once established, the LMC Legacy Foundation will be funded by WellSpan Health and will begin functioning as a ministry of LMC under the direction of the governing board. It is likely that the Foundation will not be in operation before June 2017. Please feel free to direct questions to the Board Chair, Phil Hess, at phess05@wellspan.org or 717-273-8871.

Seminar on Serving Refugees and Immigrants
Monday, November 14, 6:30 p.m. Lancaster Mennonite Conference office 2160 Lincoln Hwy E, Lancaster Pa. 17602 Church World Services and Lancaster Mennonite Conference will collaborate on a two-hour immigration seminar on November 14, 2016 beginning at 6:30 pm. The event will take place in the Lancaster Mennonite Conference center. A discussion panel will feature individuals from local Lancaster Mennonite Conference congregations who have active engaged our new neighbors. Light refreshments will be available. Anyone with questions should contact Joselyn Santiago at 717-293-5246.
Awareness & Training Making Church a Safe Place for All Volunteers in your congregations who have direct contact with children have until July 1, 2016 to be in compliance with the new Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law of 2014. If your congregation needs help with this process contact the Conference office. We have tools available to help you make that transition and develop a child protection policy.
If your congregation has not taken steps to bring your credentialed leaders into compliance, please contact the LMC Office as soon as possible for assistance in understanding what must be done. December 31, 2015 was the date for all employees of organizations that have direct contact with children to be in compliance. LMC Youth Workers Monthly Breakfast On the 4th Tuesday of each month, youth ministry workers gather at 8:00 a.m. at Lyndon Diner in Lancaster, Pa. to share ideas and, encourage and support one another through conversation and prayer. Anyone involved with youth ministry in any way in Lancaster Mennonite Conference is welcome! Please RSVP on the LMC Youth Workers FB page if you are coming. The Future Has Multiple Bottom Lines Join ASSETS and the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society at 7 p.m. on November 7 at Neffsville Mennonite Church for a panel discussion, "The Future Has No Bottom Lines." Three ASSETS alumni will participate: Charlie Crystle, CEO of the Lancaster Food Company; Peter Barber, co-owner of Two Dudes Painting Company; and Jennie Groff, co-owner of the Stroopie Company. Native Beadwork Class Native Americans used trade beads to decorate clothing and make jewelry. Students will be guided to create a project on Saturday, November 5, from 9 a.m. to noon at the 1719 Herr House & Museum. Registration is due October 21; the class costs $30.

Explore Anabaptist nonconformity in the 21st century What does it mean to be "not conformed to the patterns of this world" (Rom. 12:2) in the 21st century? This question will be the focus of the study conference "Not Conformed: The Church, the World, and Christian Discipleship in the 21st Century," sponsored by the Sider Institute for Anabaptist, Pietist, and Wesleyan Studies at Messiah College. Memory Loss Support Group The Memory Loss Support Group co-sponsored by Landis Homes and Alzheimer's Association of the Greater Pennsylvania meets next Tue, October 25, 7pm - 8pm in the Warwick Room in the Heritage Memory support area at Landis Homes, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz PA 17543. The session will be presented by representatives of the Alzheimer's and Memory Care Program at Lancaster General Hospital http://bit.ly/LGHMemory and is titled "Components of a Comprehensive Memory Evaluation." Art Reception An art reception at Landis Homes on November 3 will feature the most recent works of Katherine Horst who lives in Manheim. She graduated from Pennsylvania College of Art and Design in the spring of 2009 with a bachelor's degree in fine art. She has exhibited her collages both locally and across the country as part of solo and group shows. She has received watercolor instruction from several teachers and devotes much of her ability now to watercolor and acrylics. She has received several local awards. She is currently using the medium of mixed media paper collage which will be featured in the upcoming exhibit. Katherine is a member of Harvest Bible Chapel of Lancaster. She participated in the different art ministry opportunities and outreach events as she combines her love of art making and her Christian faith. Live music will be provided by Glenda Gingrich. The opening reception, to which the public is welcome, will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, in the Harvest View lobby and galleries. Book talk and signing event with Urbane Peachey The public is invited to hear Urbane Peachey share about his new memoir and sign copies of it on Thursday November 3 at 7:00 pm in the West Bethany Chapel at Landis Homes. Titled More Than One Thing is True: Agony and Ecstasy Below Cloud Nine this memoir is a gripping first-person account of the author's Mennonite Central Committee work in the Middle East during the 1970s, his married life and child rearing in an Islamic and Orthodox Christian environment, as well as his pastoral duties in a vigorous and growing Pennsylvania congregation. How can we move beyond tokenism, cross-cultural ineptness, and prejudice to honor the image of God in persons of all colors, so that everyone feels wanted and safe in multiethnic community? The Center for Lifelong Learning with Barnabas Initiatives will present a one-day seminar, Multiethnic Church, in Elizabethtown (Pa.) on November 7 to encourage and assist multiethnic households, ministries, and churches.
