We are excited that our resettlement numbers are increasing after a long delay and families are again finding safety and hope in our community. CWS supports refugees to set their own path towards integration -- from welcome, to self-reliance, and ultimately to thriving in their new homes. Community support is vital to the integration of newly arrived refugees and we thank you for your willingness to walk alongside our newest neighbors in friendship and solidarity. As our resettlement numbers continue to grow, we will also continue to need your support in volunteering, in-kind donations, and referrals to available housing. Cheer on the Refugee Olympic Teams This Year The International Olympics Committee has unveiled the refugee teams that will participate in the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics later this month. The 29 refugee athletes competing in the Olympics and the 6 athletes competing in the Paralympics are the second refugee teams to compete in the international competitions. Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach made the announcement during a virtual ceremony, saying he "can't wait to see" them compete. "When you, the IOC Refugee Olympic Team and the athletes from the National Olympic Committees from all over the globe, finally come together in Tokyo on July 23, it will send a powerful message of solidarity, resilience and hope to the world," Bach said. Intensive Case Management and the Community in Partnership Presenter: Melissa Berger, Program Specialist, Vulnerable Populations Summary: Many refugees, asylees, and other new arrivals with complex needs gain access to extended, intensive case management and group services through the Preferred Communities (PC) grant. This month we are introducing you to CWS Lancaster's Refugee Community Organizer, Matt Johnson. In this role, Matt partners with and supports refugee and immigrant community leaders in central PA in advocating for community needs. Through amplifying local voices with the Refugee Youth Journalism Project with One United and working with young refugee leaders to register over 500 voters last year, he is committed to ensuring local community members have their voices heard! Matt is approaching his third year with CWS and brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our office. He's a master trivia champion (and even appeared on Jeopardy!), fierce advocate, and great connector.
