U.S. Senate Failed to Pass Crucial Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protections

As someone who cares deeply about defending the lives of the unborn, you may be deeply disturbed to find out that the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act did not pass a vote in the U.S. Senate this past week.

The bill would require doctors to provide life-saving care for a baby born alive as the result of a failed abortion. Currently, there are no federal protections for these babies, and in several states it is legal to simply deny care and leave the baby to die.

Yes. You read that right. There are no protections against this kind of infanticide at the federal level.

Even though the bill did not receive enough votes to pass, we are thankful that both Pennsylvania senators, Sen. Pat Toomey (R) and Sen. Bob Casey, Jr. (D) voted in favor of these protections.

U.S. Senator Toomey had this to say after the vote:

"We have a moral obligation to protect the most vulnerable in our society. Sadly, the United States Senate has failed to distinguish our country from the likes of China and North Korea, further solidifying the U.S. as one of only seven countries permitting elective abortion 20 weeks after conception. Likewise, it's disheartening to see my colleagues deny proper medical care to babies born alive after an attempted abortion. I am disappointed these measures were not approved. I will remain committed to protecting every life, no matter how small or defenseless."

We thank both U.S. Senators Casey and Toomey for supporting these common-sense bills.

As disheartening as news like this can be, we at PFI take hope in the fact that ultimate victory and justice will be fulfilled in God. In the meantime, we will not stop advocating for the protection of unborn life until abortion is not only illegal, but also unthinkable.

Proof Wolf Wants to Give Planned Parenthood Your Tax Dollars

A couple weeks ago we told you that Gov. Wolf (former Planned Parenthood escort) created a new line item in his proposed budget that would send $3 million of your tax dollars to those committing abortions, like Planned Parenthood.

This past week in budget hearings it was confirmed, thanks to questioning from Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York), that this $3 million would go to Planned Parenthood, an organization that made close to that in profits in just their last reporting year and who had half of their abortion facilities fail health inspections last year.

It was also confirmed that it is intended to replace the funding that Planned Parenthood lost after the Trump administration's Protection Life Rule went into effect for Title X, which prohibits funding from going to clinics that perform or refer for abortion.

Supreme Court to Hear Case on Religious Freedom in Foster Care

The US Supreme Court has agreed to hear Fulton v. City of Philadelphia, a case involving Philadelphia's decision to prohibit Catholic Social Services from placing foster children in foster homes due to Catholic Social Services' beliefs about marriage.

"It's the children who lose," said Randall Wenger, Chief Counsel of the Independence Law Center. "Potential foster families working with Catholic Social Services now have their homes sitting empty. City politics should not stand in the way of the good work Catholic Social Services and their families want to do."

The Supreme Court has the ability to significantly defend the right of religious foster organizations to live out their convictions on family as they place foster children in loving homes.

Abby Johnson Speaking at the PA March for Life

We are thrilled to announce that the one and only Abby Johnson, former Planned Parenthood clinic director whose story was put to the big screen last year with the movie Unplanned, will be speaking at the PA March for Life on May 18th. In addition to writing Unplanned, a book turned movie that chronicles her conversion, she is also the founder of And Then There Were None, a nonprofit that helps Planned Parenthood clinic workers leave the industry.

We'd love to see you there! Click here for more details on the march.

"If Conversion Therapy Is Bad, Why Is Sex Reassignment Good?"

A great project of the Colson Center for Christian Worldview is their What Would You Say? video series, designed to equip Christians with answers to difficult questions regarding social issues. One of their latest video releases is on the dangers of sex reassignment and inconsistencies within the conversation.
