Coping with a Global Pandemic

As we are all aware, people all around the world are learning new ways of coping with the global pandemic that is upon us. A few examples:

  • In a West African country – The church in a small rural village is not permitted to meet in their recently-built building. So, the leaders held "compound meetings." Since extended families live together in compounds, the leaders visited those compounds and held meetings all over the village. On a recent Sunday, well over 200 attended these meetings. That is about triple their normal attendance!

  • In numerous locations leadership training schools are audio and videotaping their teachings so that students can access them. Students study personally or in small groups practicing a safe distance.

  • A leader in the Balkans, who had returned to his country from traveling in a few local countries, needed to observe strict quarantine for 2 weeks. If he would be found outside of his house – he would be fined the equivalent of $7000 and given a jail sentence.

How are we coping? Just a few things:

  • We are learning to cope with the restrictions that are part of our lives. Our travel plans are on hold.

  • We were disappointed that we could not teach at four schools in the East African countries of Kenya and Tanzania.

  • We are keeping in touch with leaders around the world through electronic communication. Since the beginning of the shutdowns, we have interacted with over a dozen leaders in ten countries. We are learning much from them.

  • These days I (Leon) am studying in preparation for videotaping a course to be used overseas.

Thank you very much for your prayer support these days. Pray that we would make the most of the opportunity that is upon us. Thank you as well for your financial support.

May the Gospel of the Kingdom spread much more rapidly than the spread of the coronavirus!
