Approval Granted for 70,000 Refugees to Enter the United States

President Obama signed an Admissions Ceiling for Fiscal Year (FY) 2015 (starting October 1, 2014), approving 70,000 refugees and Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders to enter the United States. In FY (October 1st- September 30th) 2014, sixty-five different nationalities were admitted into the United States Refugee Admissions Program. For this FY, 69,987 refugees and 10,145 SIV holders resettled throughout the United States with the assistance of National Organizations. Pennsylvania continues to be among the top ten states to resettle refugees and SIV's.
Nationally, Church World Service (CWS) resettled 6,770 refugees and 1,008 SIV's in 2014 FY, making a record-breaking total of 7,778 for the organization in recent years. Iraqis, Burmese, Bhutanese, Somalis, and Afghans are among the top five nationalities CWS resettled this year.
Lancaster CWS is the fifth highest branch to resettle individuals in the area with 305 arrivals. For the FY 2015, CWS is projecting to resettle 310 refugees and SIV's. CWS is looking forward to a successful 2015 year!
