| | | | Called to Neighbor, during COVID-19
Neighboring, walking alongside a family facing homelessness, is what makes Bridge of Hope unique, and it is more important than ever during this time of isolation and challenge. Time and again, we find that God calls people to serve as a Neighboring Volunteer for a reason. Tamara* and her five children live in an older house. Her Neighboring group consists of several woman and one man, Steve. Recently a terrible stench filled the house; the sewer had backed up. Although Tamara contacted the management company, help was slow. Navigating a sewer repair is overwhelming (and quite stinky), let alone managing it by yourself, with small children, during COVID-19! Steve heard about Tamara's plight and stepped in – he made some calls, oversaw the project, and within 24 hours the sewer was repaired. None of that would have been easy, even in normal times, but with the help of Neighboring Volunteers, Tamara and her children have been cared for and nurtured through this crisis in more ways than they could have imagined! Would your church be interested in learning more about Neighboring through Bridge of Hope? Unfortunately, the need will likely be increasing, and we would like to start working with several groups over the summer or in the fall (or by Zoom now!)
