JULY ENEWS
LIGHTHOUSE RENOVATIONS

Back in 2014 we were blessed to be given the Denver Bible Church property.  At the time we had very limited resources, but we were blessed to have support from a church in the community to help remove bushes and weeds, paint bricks and inside walls, replace broken sidewalk, and make a small stone parking lot. We understood remodeling the basement would have to wait!  We put up with the "retro" (we called it) wallpaper, holes in ceiling and walls, and exposed heating vents.

Well, that time has come for an improved look!  We have been blessed again to have two church groups to come and serve us.  They started by tearing out the walls and box-in the exposed heating vents.  We were also blessed by your generous gifts and a drywall company who donated a good bit of their cost as well!  We now feel like we have a much nicer place for the youth to hang out!  Thanks to everyone who made this possible!

          FURNITURE BANK

There is a need in our communities to offer free furniture to families in need.  Ephrata Homes of Hope with the help of  the First United Methodist Church in Ephrata, we were able to procure a large storage area to store good used donated furniture.  If you know of anyone in need or have items that you may be able to donate, please contact Chris Hibbert at (717) 368-6606
A NEW HOPE: YEAR IN REVIEW
By:  Chris Hibbert

It has already been almost a year since I started volunteering with REAL Life Community Services which led to me being employed by REAL.  The very first family I began working with had a very difficult situation.  They were homeless and in desperate need of housing and jobs.  I worked with them to find agencies that could help them and they were very willing to help themselves.  Through their hard work and willingness to work with the agencies, I am pleased to report that Mom has a job, they are renting an apartment, and they have a vehicle of their own.  The family would not have succeeded, though, without the help of numerous agencies, family, friends, and churches pitching in to give them the support they needed.  Family and friends gave them short-term housing, co-workers gave them rides to work, churches gave them food and money to stay in hotels, and agencies worked to find them long-term housing, mentoring, and budget-counseling.  Sadly, in most situations like theirs, families do not have the support systems they need.  They are in desperate situations.  That is where we at REAL and community members can help the most.  Each family member, friend, church, and agency gave something to help the family.  We can do that as well!  If you have a talent for budgeting or working with finances, or if you love to drive, or if you just had a bumper crop of tomatoes in your garden, there is probably some way you can help families in our community!  Look around, is there a neighbor who doesn't have any support systems who you just might be able to help?  Take a leap of faith and offer some help or consider volunteering at REAL!
