  • Pa. German Dialect Classes—Open for registration now! Beginner classes run Thursdays, 7 to 9 p.m., from March 7 through May 19. Intermediate classes are on Tuesdays, 7 to 9 p.m., March 5 through May 9. Classes cost $115 for nonmembers, $100 for members. Register at lmhs.org or call (717) 393-9745.   • The New DNA Reality: Forging the Path Between Discovery and Privacy—Join the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society on Friday, March 29, during the Lancaster Family History Conference, to hear Darvin Martin explain the types of DNA used to connect families, and how that DNA can also be used by law enforcement. He will also address all the pertinent contemporary issues with DNA and privacy and peer into what is forthcoming in the future. Workshop costs $25, livestreaming available.   • Family History Conference—The 2019 Lancaster Family History Conference will highlight the use of legal records in learning our ancestors' stories. Judy Russell, "The Legal Genealogist," will give the keynote address, "No Person Shall Gallop Horses in the Streets": Using Court Records to Tell the Stories of Our Ancestors' Lives." The conference runs March 28-30. The Saturday conference will take place at the Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster.   • Pennsylvania Dutch Grain Painting—Learn grain painting, a painting style used to replicate wood graining, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 16 from local fancy painter Jim King. Students will learn by painting a mini chest and a picture frame. No experience necessary. Class costs $85 for members, $100 for nonmembers. Register at lmhs.org or call (717) 393-9745.   • The Illuminated Letter— Emily Smucker-Beidler will teach how to add lettering and calligraphy to fraktur designs in this folk art class on Saturday, March 16, from 9 a.m. until noon.   • Library/Archives AssistantThe Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society is looking to hire a part-time Library/Archives Assistant (16 hours/week) with a tentative start date of mid-April of 2019.
