"As a staff team, we spent several weeks working intensely and dedicating ourselves to preparing for the Fall Leadership Assembly and the celebration of 500 years of Anabaptism. Although I knew I'd be busy supporting event details, I looked forward to the worship sessions, speakers, connecting with friends, and meeting new leaders. In other words, I approached the four-day event with my usual intensity. I planned to engage as much as my duties allowed and to throw myself into worship, listening, and conversation. But God had different plans. Sometime between Wednesday and Thursday, He gently disarmed me through the words of Simon and Ceri Harris. This gentleness was as surprising as discovering the gap between my head and my heart. I find it hard to describe how this gentle movement of the Holy Spirit eased my usual intensity and touched a part of me I didn't want to face—my heart. I keep asking, "Why the disarmament, Lord?" However, the journey continues as I read Simon and Ceri's book, Wholehearted Leadership. I highly recommend it; and if you didn't get a copy at the event, it is available for purchase on Amazon."
