Spring greetings from EMM! Mother's Day is just around the corner, and here's a beautiful way to honor the wonderful woman, or women, in your life. Honor your mother, mother-in-law, mother-to-be, or another special woman in your life by giving a charitable gift in her name to help two preschools in West Africa. This is a gift which will far outlast flowers! EMM workers have partnered with local folks in the West African villages of Catel, Guinea-Bissau, and Pirang, The Gambia, to begin preschools where children get a good start on reading, writing, and arithmetic. But most importantly, the little ones learn that Jesus loves them and has good plans for their lives. View fun photos of these preschoolers here. Village parents pay $10 per school year in tuition, which is a significant expense since the annual per capita income in this part of the world is only $1,090. As you can imagine, this small tuition payment does not cover all costs. The preschools have a combined current financial need of $5,080. Charitable gifts received will be used to outfit school rooms, make uniforms, and purchase school supplies for up to 80 children as well as supplement the salaries of the preschool teachers. -
$54.50 will provide one student with a uniform, books, and supplies and will supplement the teachers' salaries -
$720 covers the cost of paint, window screens, cabinet locks, general care, and security for the preschools EMM has already received first gifts of $109 (help for two preschoolers!) toward this number. The givers said: We encourage others to give in honor of the mothers who have held us, read to us, sacrificed many things, taken us to school, loved us, and allowed us to grow into who we have become. Give in honor of your mother or another special woman in your life and let her know you did so on May 10, Mother's Day!
