Abortion by video? Abortion Drugs via Internet or a Phone App? Planned Parenthood has revealed to the PA Department of Health in a recent inspection that they are adding "telemedication abortion" – sometimes called "webcam abortions" - an unsafe practice that puts profits before patients. Language was added by the PA State House to a Senate Bill that would effectively ban its practice - but we need your State Senator to vote in favor of this bill with the language already passed by the House. It's a critical vote that could come later this month on whether to concur (agree) on the amended bill. Senate Bill 857 would expand telemedicine in Pennsylvania and it has been amended by the State House to ban telemed abortions by including limitations language that requires a doctor to administer in-person any of the drugs listed by the FDA Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS), which includes the abortion drug Mifeprex.

Update: "Conversion Therapy" Ban in Allegheny County For several months, members of the Allegheny County Council have been considering a county-wide ban on so-called "conversion therapy" - something PFI's Legal Counsel Curtis Schube described in written testimony to the council as sweeping legislation that would prevent "any effort to help a minor to reduce same-sex attraction or feelings of being the opposite sex, even if the minor wants the help." Thankfully the so-called "conversion therapy" ban is being tabled for this year. But, sadly, it may be re-introduced next year and due to the 2019 election results, there may not be as much opposition to this harmful proposal. Thank you to all who contacted their county councilmembers and please stay tuned next year to any such proposal. We also thank Curtis, along with PFI Director of Strategic Partnerships Kurt Weaver, for their efforts in helping to inform the council members as well as engaging with constituents throughout the county. The expertise and resources they were able to provide is all possible because of your financial partnership with us - thank you.

On this date, December 6, in 1865, the 13th Amendment outlawing slavery became part of the Constitution. Every Republican voted for it, only 2 democrats in the senate and only 14 democrats in the house voted for it. These numbers are very similar to legislation dealing with pro-life laws today unfortunately - like the Down Syndrome Protection Act (Roll Call: House | Senate)
