Dear Friends,  When we launched our Cover Us with Love campaign in February, we invited our community to come together around a very tangible need: new roofs for 10 Friendship Community residential homes.  Today, we are joyful to share that the work has begun!  Friday, August 14th, the very first Friendship Community home received its new roof. What began as a need we could see on paper is now something we can see with our own eyes; a safe, secure roof providing protection for the people who call that house home. And this progress is possible because of something we have witnessed time and time again at Friendship Community: we are better together.   The Cover Us with Love campaign has brought together generous donors, grantors, and the incredible volunteers of Mennonite Disaster Service, who are providing all of the roofing labor in-kind. Each partner has played an important role in turning this vision into reality, and we are deeply grateful. Through the generosity of our community, we have now raised the funds needed to begin roofing approximately half of the 10 homes. This is an extraordinary milestone, and a beautiful reminder of what can happen when people come together with compassion and purpose. But there are still homes waiting to be covered.  We are continuing to welcome gifts to help us complete the remaining roofs and ensure that every Friendship Community home has the protection it needs. Every gift brings us one home closer to the finish line. We are reminded of the words of Psalm 127:1: “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.”  We are grateful for every person who has helped build this effort, those who have given, those who have prayed, those who have provided grants, and those who have shown up with their hands ready to serve. The next roof will be going up on October 2nd, and we couldn’t be more grateful for everyone who has helped Cover Us with Love.
