Abortion by video? Abortion Drugs via Internet or a Phone App?

Planned Parenthood has revealed to the PA Department of Health in a recent inspection that they are adding "telemedication abortion" – sometimes called "webcam abortions" - an unsafe practice that puts profits before patients. Language was added by the PA State House to a Senate Bill that would effectively ban its practice - but we need your State Senator to vote in favor of this bill with the language already passed by the House. It's a critical vote that could come later this month on whether to concur (agree) on the amended bill.

Senate Bill 857 would expand telemedicine in Pennsylvania and it has been amended by the State House to ban telemed abortions by including limitations language that requires a doctor to administer in-person any of the drugs listed by the FDA Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS), which includes the abortion drug Mifeprex.

To my State Senator: No Abortions by Video in PA!
Protect Life! Pass Senate Bill 857 as amended and ban telemed abortions.

Update: "Conversion Therapy" Ban in Allegheny County

For several months, members of the Allegheny County Council have been considering a county-wide ban on so-called "conversion therapy" - something PFI's Legal Counsel Curtis Schube described in written testimony to the council as sweeping legislation that would prevent "any effort to help a minor to reduce same-sex attraction or feelings of being the opposite sex, even if the minor wants the help."

Thankfully the so-called "conversion therapy" ban is being tabled for this year. But, sadly, it may be re-introduced next year and due to the 2019 election results, there may not be as much opposition to this harmful proposal. Thank you to all who contacted their county councilmembers and please stay tuned next year to any such proposal.

We also thank Curtis, along with PFI Director of Strategic Partnerships Kurt Weaver, for their efforts in helping to inform the council members as well as engaging with constituents throughout the county. The expertise and resources they were able to provide is all possible because of your financial partnership with us - thank you.

Michael Geer on WDAC

Thank you once again to WDAC and Greg Barton's Spotlight program for welcoming PFI President Michael Geer to discuss an update on important issues happening in our state, including Gov. Wolf's veto of the Down Syndrome Protection Act; the proposed Heartbeat Bill; the fetal remains bill; Planned Parenthood's abortion by video plan and the legalization - and commercialization - of recreational marijuana. Thank you!

Thanks to the generous partnership of many families in Lancaster County and across Pennsylvania, we received a great boost to our work through The Extraordinary Give, with contributions over $50,000! We are so grateful and excited to partner with you - together we work to make Pennsylvania a place where God is honored, religious freedom flourishes, families thrive and life is cherished.

On this date, December 6, in 1865, the 13th Amendment outlawing slavery became part of the Constitution. Every Republican voted for it, only 2 democrats in the senate and only 14 democrats in the house voted for it.  These numbers are very similar to legislation dealing with pro-life laws today unfortunately - like the Down Syndrome Protection Act (Roll Call: House | Senate)

Praise & Prayer
Christmas nativity scene of baby Jesus in the manger with Joseph_ Mary_ shepherds and three wise men
Romans 12:2 "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - His good, pleasing and perfect will."
Praises:
  • We praise the Lord for a staff and board of directors who desire to see many lives touched by God at Spruce Lake and Pinebrook.
  • For the many people who have invested their time, talent and treasure to point people toward Christ this past year as we look forward to what God will do in 2020.
  • Here are some quotes from a teacher form from the recent Fall Outdoor Education Classes:

"It is a chance for us to emphasize our spiritual theme, and to call our 7th grade students to take on their faith more personally. The time away from home, in the SLOS activities, and with friends aids in accomplishing this." – middle school principal

"Truly, our trip to Spruce Lake is the highlight of the year – which is why we have almost as many adults as a students attending! Can't say enough about this place." - middle school teacher

"This is a great way for the students, teachers, and parents to get to know each other and form bonds. Lots of students faced some fears and built confidence." – 6th grade teacher

"This program allows community to grow within our 6th grade class. We are able to move forward in our 6th grade life science class due to the educational concepts that you teach here. We also have more character development and spiritual conversations. Thank You!" – 6th grade teacher

"The teaches were great and we loved the spiritual aspect. The program helps to give us a great insight into the challenges our students face." – 8th grade teacher

"It is run well and gives our students a chance to meet and learn from God though a different place/ in nature." – 5th grade teacher

Prayers:
  • Pray for the Franconia Mennonite Camp Association Board and staff at Spruce Lake and Pinebrook as we continue to seek God's direction for the ministry.
  • Please pray that God would prepare the hearts of the arriving guests for what He wants to teach them while they are here.
  • Pray that the Lord would keep leading guests back to Pinebrook as we work to build friendships with guest groups for remainder of this year and 2020.
  • Pray that the DEP permit for the waste water improvements we are currently working on would be approved.
  • Pray for the funding and the permit process so that more people can be pointed toward Christ through the sixteen new cabins at Wilderness Camp.
  • We would appreciate your prayers as we seek to find a Retreat Center Director for Spruce Lake. Mark Mitchell has taken on the job of Operations and Recruiting Director. Mark Swartley needs to spend more time leading the ministry of Spruce Lake and Pinebrook and less time on the daily tasks.

Praying that your Christmas season would be a joyous one.

In Christ,

Dave Trout

You can give new entrepreneurs a strong start

Dear Phil and Kelly:

This year, as we celebrate the promise God offers us in the birth of Christ, I want you to know the hope that your gifts to MCC are bringing across the globe.

In Kenya, where droughts are becoming more frequent and rainfall less reliable, you are helping Deborah Solodo and other farmers to raise animals like goats and chickens that can be sustained more easily than cows during dry seasons.

Join us in bringing this hope and help to more families around the world.

Your gift by Dec. 31 makes a difference in the fields and flocks of farmers from Cambodia to Colombia.

It brings urgently needed help in the cities of Syria and Ukraine and supports people working for peace and justice in their own communities.

The work we do to share God's love and compassion for all in the name of Christ would not be possible without you.

I want you to know how much I value your gifts and prayers. May the Prince of Peace touch your life with joy and hope this Christmas and in the coming year.

Grace and peace,

Fwd: Year End Summary 2019

Devotions time with our Elementary crew. They are learning the Word!

                    Year End Summary 2019

Merry Christmas!

Here we are at the close of another year. You have heard it many times said about where did the time go. Here at Crossfire we have faithfully served between 100-150 children each and every week during this year between the Ephrata & Ashland locations. Students have enjoyed godly fellowship, devotions time, worship and prayer in a peaceful atmosphere.

We are blessed to partner with: Parkview Mennonite, Indiantown Mennonite, Heritage Mennonite, Faith Journey, Jody Horning and Tyler Eberly family in providing meals for our evenings. The children look forward to this meal time and greatly appreciate these meals. Every Wednesday and Thursday is covered by this tastly blessing.

During this past year students enjoyed: Snow tubing, a ball game in Scranton PA, summer VBS, a road trip to Noah's Ark, a mission trip to Harrisburg, a swim event with other youth centers, monthly roller skating parties, a fall festival with a hayride, teams providing drama and mime and most important - reliable evenings at Crossfire. Everyday Tuesday thro Saturday we have a time to minister to these students. Nights that are age related and highly anticipated by each child.  Many children have only missed 1 or 2 nights in this entire year. They love attending Crossfire!

We have walked beside students as they have encountered many difficult times in family life. Loss of loved ones, families broken apart. Children needing a place to find comfort and I am so thankful for the opportunity Crossfire has to fill this void. It is encouraging to see children come into the program at 4 years old and continue on even through age 18.

We truly appreciate your partnership with us in ministry. Your donations in the month of December help carry us through the lean summer months. Partnering together we can continue to share the Love of Jesus to the many children in our community. Thank you for your generous support.

Sincerely,

James L Horning
Executive Director

Ps. stay tuned for some amazing news and opportunities coming out of our Ashland location. God has a unique vision and plan to reach the hundreds of children up north and you can play a distintive role in that vision. Keep us in your prayers. God is Good!
