MCC Native American learning tour

From October 31 - November 4, join the Mennonite Central Committee Native American learning tour organized by MCC East Coast and Circle Legacy Center. The tour is designed to shed light on untold history in Pennsylvania and beyond and will include daily trips from the MCC Welcoming Place in Akron, Pa., to destinations in central Pennsylvania and Washington, DC. Participants will learn about topics including early Native American life and settlements in Lancaster County, the Conestoga massacre, the breaking of treaties and the Carlisle Indian Industrial School. Those who are unable to participate in the entire tour are welcome to register only for the first day (October 31), which will cover the theology and ideology that shaped European exceptionalism and the Doctrine of Discovery. For more information, visit mcc.org or contact Curtis Book, MCC East Coast peace and justice coordinator, at cbook@mcc.org or 215-316-6528.

7 ways to support refugees

More than 60 million people have been displaced from their homes, including refugees, asylum seekers and those who are internally displaced because of war, disaster and economic hardship. Some are Syrian and Iraqi refugees. Others are Central American refugees seeking safety in the U.S. Please download and share this bulletin insert about seven ways members of your congregation can support refugees in your community and around the world.
Urgent kit needs

Mennonite Central Committee has an urgent need for 8,000 hygiene kits and 2,000 relief kits. These kits are sent to people in need around the world in countries like Syria, Ukraine and Honduras. For more details, visit mcc.org/kits or contact the MCC East Coast Material Resources Center at 717-733-2847
The New Jim Crow project

Are you interested in learning about why the United States incarcerates more people than any other country in the world? Do you want to better understand racial justice in this country? Do you want to examine a Christian approach to criminal justice? If so, then we invite you to participate in Mennonite Central Committee's New Jim Crow project, which offers Anabaptist study groups, churches and Sunday school classes the opportunity to learn about mass incarceration in the United States. Using The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander and a Christian study guide, groups are led through educational materials provided free of charge from MCC. Download this bulletin insert to share about this project with your congregation.
