We Stand with Refugees Today and Every Day. Do you?

Today we celebrate refugees from all across the globe. During this time of civil unrest, food insecurity, and generations of young growing up in refugee camps, we must collectively do our part to ensure that refugees are provided the hope of safety, food, and freedom that we all deserve.

Since 1951, refugees have been defined as a group of people forced from their homes because of a well-founded fear of persecution based on their race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.

Today, as every year on June 20th, we recognize the strength, resilience, and perseverance of refugees as they seek to rebuild their lives. Today, we are calling on you to stand with us alongside refugees. Advocate, donate, or volunteer. Through each of these actions, you are showing your support of refugees and the mission of CWS-Lancaster.

Advocate: By signing the #WithRefugees petition, people from across the globe can call on governments to work together and do their fair share for refugees.

The #WithRefugees petition will be delivered to UN headquarters in New York ahead of the UN General Assembly on September 19, 2016.

The petition asks governments to:
• Ensure every refugee child gets an education
• Ensure every refugee family has somewhere safe to live
• Ensure every refugee can work or learn new skills to make a positive contribution to their community

Add your name to the petition here to show that the world stands #WithRefugees.

Donate: Your monetary donation helps CWS-Lancaster to assist refugees as they are welcomed into our community. Currently, we are preparing for a very busy summer of newly arriving refugees, with most of our families coming from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Syria. Your donations remain local and help us to accommodate the needs of families through direct client aide and program support. You can give now here. Thank you!

Volunteer: Your time is always appreciated and we would love to see you around the office! Please visit our website and let us know how you'd like to work alongside refugees as they adjust to life in the United States. Check out our website for opportunities! Also, if you have household items that you can donate to our program, please check out our items list here.

We know that we live in a dynamic and gracious community-- thank you for helping us to welcome refugees.

Most sincerely grateful,

Sheila Mastropietro
