Fall 2019: Stories of God's People

Welcome to a new year of learning and growing in faith with children and youth! May the stories of God's people in the early church and, centuries before, the kingdom of Israel be a reminder of God's presence with you on this journey of teaching.

Churches in many places
From Paul's encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus to his missionary travels, children and youth will meet inspiring models of faith such as Ananias, Barnabas, Lydia, Aquila, and Priscilla. They will see that early followers of Jesus lived out the gospel of peace by mending disagreements, welcoming others, and working together for the good of all. As the good news spreads, wonder at God's blessing and care for this growing community of faithful leaders and followers.

Exile and return
The theme of God's faithfulness continues with stories of kings and prophets, exile and restoration, sorrow and hope. Children and youth will hear about Solomon's building of the beautiful temple, imagine Ezekiel's valley of dry bones, and marvel at how the people worked together to rebuild the temple after it was destroyed. This fall, Shine provides you and your congregation's children the opportunity to experience stories that can transform us into faith-filled people of God.

Introducing Bryan Sirchio!

We are excited to introduce Bryan Sirchio to the Shine Curriculum community! Bryan composed and produced all the songs for the 2019-20 Shine Songbook and CD. This album contains 22 songs of praise, prayer songs; songs for Advent, Christmas, and Easter. Songs are included in every session, supporting worship and musical expression. Brand new this year—the music is also available for purchase in downloadable MP3 format!

Bryan is known best for his ability to express deep biblical concepts and stories through music and lyrics that are fun, accessible, and substantive. He lives with his wife in Madison, Wisconsin, where he owns and operates a recording studio and oversees all the operations of Crosswind Music Ministries. Bryan is also the pastor of the McFarland United Church of Christ in McFarland, Wisconsin.

Shine's summer travels

The Shine Curriculum team has been out and about this summer, meeting and talking with people about resources that families and churches need to build a lasting foundation of faith for children and youth. Shine partners and staff traveled to Kansas City for the Mennonite Church USA convention, Abbotsford for the Mennonite Church Canada Gathering, and Greensboro, North Carolina, for the Church of the Brethren Annual Conference. Following these denominational conferences, Shine's curriculum editor, Chrissie Walls, traveled to Hot Springs, North Carolina, for the Wild Goose Festival. In all of these places, we were pleased to see long time customers, meet new friends, and share about the future of Shine Curriculum! Where will you see Shine next?
