Church World Service (CWS) and Lutheran Refugee Services (LRS) are co-hosting a World Refugee Day event on Friday, June 19, 2015, at the Southern Market Center in downtown Lancaster.

The event will include a proclamation from the office of Lancaster City Mayor Rick Gray supporting refugee resettlement in Lancaster City, as well as a panel presentation about the current Syrian refugee crisis by experts in the field. Panel members will include Linda Hartke, President and CEO of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services, of Baltimore, Maryland, Jen Smyers, Church World Service Associate Director for Immigration and Refugee Policy, of Washington, DC, as well as Ahmad Sahtout, local immigrant to the United States from Syria..
World Refugee Day is held on June 20 every year, as determined by the United Nations General Assembly. Cities all over the world celebrate and advocate for their local refugee communities on the days surrounding June 20th. The World Refugee Day Proclamation & Syrian Forum, held by CWS and LRS, are part of this annual global celebration.
Light refreshments will be served and a Q&A will follow the presentations.
