Tellus360, Lancaster Stands Up and local community member, Paul Harnik, are hosting a square dance in support of Lancaster's refugees, immigrants, and veterans. Lancaster has proclaimed with open hearts and minds that all who enter our community are welcome-- regardless of race, religion, nationality, political opinions, or membership in a social group. We stand tall and strong beside our refugee, immigrant and veteran neighbors—because in this town, we are equal and deserve the chance of hope and freedom in our lives. A four-piece string band from Maryland, The Vacutones play songs and tunes from throughout the South and Midwest, music learned from 78rpm records and archival recordings. Kate Brett is on banjo, Kevin Enoch on banjo-uke and bass, Bill Schmidt on fiddle, and Ann Porcella guitar. | | | SAVE THE DATE for a film showing: June 20th is World Refugee Day! | | | Join us for a film showing of Warehoused, A NEW DOCUMENTARY FILM TO SHED LIGHT ON HUMAN STORIES INSIDE THE WORLD'S LARGEST REFUGEE CAMP-- DADAAB Where/When: Location confirmation TBD, 6pm-8pm, June 20th On World Refugee Day, we want to do more—so we are sending a little bit of Lancaster to the refugee children of the Dadaab Refugee Camp, Kenya, Africa. All donations and proceeds raised on this day will help to supply the refugee children in Dadaab with school supplies for the classroom. CWS-Lancaster staff member, Omar Mohamed is traveling to Dadaab this summer to hand-deliver materials to the schools. Please join us for an evening to include a moving showing of Warehoused, followed by a discussion and video of Omar in the camp with the children. Then stay tuned for a special invitation-only follow up event in the Fall of 2017, to hear a first-hand account of Omar's trip.
