Fall Leadership Assembly LMC's Fall Leadership Assembly is planned for Thursday, September 21 (instead of September 16) at a location to be determined. This assembly is being held in conjunction with the Annual International Missions Association (IMA) being hosted this year by EMM. This is a wonderful opportunity for LMC leaders to interact with and learn from our Global Fraternal partners from around the world. Responding to Church Violence: Thinking Ahead Thursday, July 20, 7 p.m., Oxford Circle Mennonite Church The MSNBC headline in 2015 read, "Charleston shooting part of long history of violence against churches." An earlier USA Today headline in 2013 was similar: "Churches boost security as violent incidents grow." With a string of tragedies over the last decade in church sanctuaries, cathedrals, and other locations of faith ministry, many faith-based organizations are offering educational resources to help reduce or prevent violence from occurring.
Lancaster Mennonite Conference will offer a seminar on this troubling aspect of contemporary life to help churches think ahead to the unthinkable. Responding to Church Violence: Thinking Ahead will take place on Thursday, July 20 at Oxford Circle Mennonite Church, 900 Howell St, Philadelphia, Pa. The seminar, featuring law enforcement and church leaders, will convene at 7 p.m. and end by 9:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Pastor Tracy Brown (retired State Police) will provide a peace church context for the presentation by the Pennsylvania State Police. Local metro police will also be present to comment on facility safety. The police officers will provide practical suggestions to reduce threats and describe resources available to churches to increase personal and property safety. The approach of the evening will encourage thoughtful responses rather than fearful reactions. A time for question and answer is scheduled for the evening.
Pastors, Rabbi's, faith-based organization board members, church trustees, and others interested in the subject are encouraged to attend. A small packet of printed resources will be available to attenders. Light refreshments will be served. Schools, government offices, businesses, churches, synagogues and mosques, to name a few, have experienced violence at their locations. Some reports suggest violence occurring at faith-based locations has increased over the last decade. As a result many places have responded with education, training, and security measures to increase the safety of the people on the premises. If you want to learn more about this subject, set aside the evening of July 20.

We Help Children Hebrews 11 says we walk by faith not by sight, and goes on to list the heroes of the faith. By faith, God keeps growing our ministry called We Help Children and we are receiving more heroes to help us! We just received a nurse providing medical clinics in dirt poor villages and a horse therapy leader to help children heal in orphanages in Central America. Our ministry goal is to provide the Best Services for children in the worst places. We now have multiple interns, volunteers and missionaries serving in multiple countries helping children in crisis, including in inner city Chicago. What our growing ministry needs now are heroes serving in these new missionary positions: Development Director, Newsletter Writer, and Prayer Group Coordinator. Swiss-German 1717 Immigrant Journey to Lancaster Come along on a field trip retracing the path of the large 1717 group of early immigrants to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Host Families Needed 2017-2018 School Year Two host families are needed for the 2017-2018 school year for two Nigerian high school students (2 different families needed) studying at LMS. Both students (1 boy and 1 girl) are connected to the Mennonite Church in Nigeria and would prefer to stay with families attending Mennonite churches here in Lancaster. The guardians of the students are able to afford a modest monthly payment to offset some of the costs of hosting. Myers will speak to the Biblical perspective, historical background, and importance of using visuals in our worship settings. Lehman and Hutchinson will share their churches' design processes. Each will show examples of past worship arts elements that may inspire you when creating visual elements in your own spaces of worship. Participants will break into pairs or small groups to brainstorm, through a hands-on activity, about how visual elements can deepen their congregation's worship experience. Come prepared to learn, create and to share ideas!
