From afar, they were drawn by the light of the just born Prince of Peace. In our troubled world today, God calls each of us also to reflect the light of Christ as we work for God's kingdom, whether that's in Puerto Rico or Syria. We know that we have Christ's example and the example of many faithful Christians which are lights to guide our way. May God continue to guide our feet and hands to reflect Christ's light. "...For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage." "In this season of growing darkness, keep our eyes fixed on the pinpoints of light, that shine and shine because nothing can put them out." "...Shine like stars in the world." In 2017, I had the wonderful opportunity to take an alternative assignment with MCC. This four-month period of service saw me serving as the MCC interim representative in the central African country of Chad from August through November. MCC partners in Chad are doing amazing work in the areas of humanitarian response, education, environment, food security, water and peace and justice. According to the United Nations Human Development Index, Chad is one of the poorest countries in the world. Yet I was continually humbled and inspired by MCC partners reaching out with committed efforts to enable God's children there to be blessed. MCC's partners in Chad certainly "shine like stars in the world." In this season of advent, the staff of MCC East Coast wishes you light. Thank you for reflecting Christ's light as you shine like stars through reaching out in acts of love. Bruce Campbell-Janz |
