The Ways Businesses Help Change Lives | | Dear HMS parents, , | | | The winning golf foursome at the 2018 Friends of HMS Golf Tournament was (l to r): Hinkletown Mennonite Alum Nathaniel Martin, Tim Martin, Ted Maack and Jimmy Plessinger.
| Thanks to All Golfers and Sponsors who joined Us! Last Tuesday, a misty rain shower at registration time gave way to a humid, but beautiful afternoon at Bent Creek Country Club. Our generous golfers and sponsors helped us raise over $13,000 toward student and scholarship programs at HMS!
We are very fortunate to have the regular support of donors and friends of the school. Those who play and sponsor golf, provide direct gift support through tax-deductible giving, support scholarship programs through EITC/OSTC, donate to our annual auction and engage with student programs for service make a difference. In addition, business and community leaders who partner in student programs through job shadowing and internship programs with our new high school Venture Program all make a meaningful impact on students' education and personal development.
| EITC Renewals Through Friday, New Applicants July 2!
| | | HMS students serve in the community each spring to assist with grounds maintenance and other service projects at local organizations. | The Educational Improvement Tax Credit program (EITC) and its companion, the Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit program (OSTC), are two great ways to support school choice in Pennsylvania. Business gifts through these programs fund scholarships for more than half the students at HMS. You can touch dozens of students' lives next year through your business! To renew participation, you can re-apply online through June 29 at the DCED website. Through you, students are learning and living God's purposes. New participants should submit applications on July 2, 2018. See more details below and in news announcement.
See this instructions fact sheet for more program and application information. Your CPA should already be familiar with this program, but if not, feel free to contact me for assistance. Also, the 2018 tax law increases potential benefits some business may realize from participation in these popular (and limited) tax credit programs.
Thanks for your consideration of this and other creative options that enable Hinkletown Mennonite School to impact student lives and their futures! | Governor Wolf Signs Budget Expanding Business Tax Credits for Scholarships
| | On June 25, we received word that Governor Tom Wolf signed the 2018-2019 budget. The good news is this budget includes a $25 million increase in K-12 funding under the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program. This is a significant increase!
While this is a considerable increase, it is unsure whether this increase is large enough to provide credits for all applying businesses. It does mean that new businesses who file on July 2 have a very good chance of being approved this year. If you know of interested businesses, now is the time to apply, but the window is very small. All applications need to be filed on July 2.
If a business chooses to use our filing services, (learn more when visiting For those interested, the total funds now available (to support private/parochial school choices) through educational tax credits is as follows: - $110 million for EITC K-12 (up from $85 million in 2017-18)
- $12.5 million for EITC Pre-K
- $50 million for OSTC
