More Children's Books on Body Safety

Books are an excellent tool to help children learn about their bodies and boundaries in open, age-appropriate, and non-shaming ways. We've updated our resources page to include a thorough list of children's board and picture books aimed toward children from infancy to 12 years of age. Parents, caregivers, and teachers can use these books at home, during children's time at church, or in Circle of Grace lessons.

POEM: Listen to the Weeping Child

Listen to the weeping of the innocent and hurting
Hiding in their shame for something someone else has done.
Wondering whom to turn to who will understand their terror,
Fearing it's not over but has likely just begun.

Calling All Protectors of Children: Jeanette Harder and Anna Groff
Are you a member of your church's child protection committee or tasked with taking the lead on child protection in your faith community? Or do you believe that someone should take initiative? This seminar will encourage, equip, and further inform you about how to keep kids safe through Dove's Nest's offerings. 7/3/2019, 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Parenting for Prevention: Samuel Voth Schrag and Anna Groff
Parents are children's best teachers. So how do we teach our children healthy boundaries, such as empowering them to say no, helping them understand body safety basics, or teaching them to identify trusted adults? Come and learn age-appropriate, concrete ways to demonstrate to your children that God loves their entire beings and wants them to be safe. You'll receive tips to help build a solid foundation for Circle of Grace concepts at home (whether or not your church has introduced that curriculum).  7/3/2019, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Consequences for Your Congregation: Taking Victims and Survivors Seriously: Nancy Kauffmann and Anna Groff
All churches have members who are survivors of abuse. We must also assume that there are offenders in our midst. Whether abuse occurred in a faith community many, many years ago or has just been uncovered, the church needs to be prepared to support victims and help the congregation process the situation. Come learn what Scripture says about how to respond to past abuse, how to truly work toward victim-centeredness in prevention work, and how to make it easier for survivors to come forward in the church with their stories and wisdom. 7/5/2019, 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

YOUTH: Finding Your Voice: Brenda L. Yoder
Is it really okay to be assertive or to refuse to people-please? Can we be empowered to be clear about our individual needs? With Jesus as our model boundary-setter, come and learn ways to set healthy boundaries with friends and family members and at school, church, and during extracurriculars. This training was presented at Dove's Nest's and Mennonite Women USA's 2018 Empowering Women and Girls Conference. 7/4/2019, 2:45 PM - 3:45 PM; 7/5/2019, 2:45 PM - 3:45 PM
