  • Community-Focused Architecture—Mennonite Central Committee's Welcoming Place was uniquely designed for community. Has it delivered on its promise? Explore the space and engage with a panel reflecting on its first 18 years at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, September 24th at 21 South 12th Street, Akron.

  • Maize and Snitz Fest—Celebrate the heritages of local Native American and Pennsylvania German cultures during this festival of food, crafts, and life at Herr House on Saturday, October 5th from 10 am to 3 pm. Multiple demonstrators and artisans will be on hand. Adult admission - $12. Children 7 to 12 years old - $6. Kids, 6 years old and under, are free. Purchase tickets at hansherr.org or by phone at (717) 464-4438.

  • Explore Quilting—Where and when did quilting begin? Learn about the history of quilting and the quilt shops of today. See samples of Mennonite and antique Amish quilts. The class will be held on Thursday, October 17th from 7 to 8:30 pm at the Mennonite Information Center—2209 Millstream Rd, Lancaster. Cost $20 for non-members, $15 for members.   • Book Binding—Join us at the Herr House on Saturday, October 26th from 9 am to 2 pm for a bookbinding class taught by Ramon Townsend. Students will learn the steps of bookbinding and take home their own personally handcrafted blank book. Cost is $150. Register at hansherr.org or call (717) 464-4438.

  • Paint a Mini Blanket Chest—Jim King will teach PA German folk art painting using traditional motifs. Acrylic paints are applied to a poplar softwood replica of an early bun footed blanket chest. No experience necessary. The class will be held on Saturday, November 9th from 9 am to 12 pm at the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society, 2215 Millstream Rd, Lancaster.   • Christmas Candlelight ToursBegin the Christmas season with this tradition. Learn about the local Native Americans and the Pennsylvania Germans, followed by the reading of the Christmas story in German while sitting in the candlelit Stube. Held on three different nights at the 1719 Herr House & Museum, December 5th & 6th, 6 to 8 pm, and December 7th, 5 to 8:40 pm. Tickets will go on sale on October 1st at hansherr.org.
