Maize and Snitz Fest ~
Celebrates the diversity of early Lancaster County

Celebrate Native American and Pennsylvania German cultures through living history demonstrations.  Maize & Snitz Festival takes place at the 1719 Hans Herr House & Museum on Saturday, October 5th from 10 am - 3 pm.

Bring out the entire family on Saturday, October 5th from 10 am to 3 pm to celebrate the heritages of local Native American and Pennsylvania German cultures at the 1719 Hans Herr House & Museum, 1849 Hans Herr Drive, Willow Street, PA.

This popular annual festival—held on the grounds of the county's oldest home—features great food, interpreters in traditional dress, hands-on activities, and demonstrations of colonial-era arts, crafts, and farm life. Featured demonstrations include threshing, quilting, loom weaving, heckling flax, churning butter, and cooking over a fire. Artisans will be making shingles, shoes, candles, and corn husk dolls.

Guests tour the Longhouse, a replica of the dwelling used by Native Americans before the time of European settlement in the area. Native American craftspeople and storytellers share their culture, history, and crafts.

Admission is $14 for adults, $7 for children 7-12, and complimentary for those 6 and under.

Maize and Snitz Festival is one of many interesting events on the Lancaster Roots 2019 calendar. Through public presentations, food, music, field trips, and classes, these events reveal Lancaster and its people: their stories, culture, and history.
