Speaking Out

As immigration enforcement tightens in the U.S., women, children, and teens from Central America who are fleeing domestic and sexual violence in their home countries encounter quick deportation or harsher legal processes and extended detention when they seek refuge in the U.S. To learn more about this issue, including how to speak with your legislators about acting compassionately, read this Action Alert from the MCC U.S. Washington Office, mcc.org/protect-women-children.

Open Positions

MCC is seeking a Canner Operator. Canner Operators travel with the meat canner to 34 different locations across the U.S. and Canada, canning beef, turkey, and pork. Canners are responsible for all aspects of the project including: operating steam and pressure vessels, coordinating volunteers, maintaining and communicating USDA regulations and the maintenance of all machinery in the process.

Join MCC U.S. as an IT User Support Technician in Akron, PA. The position works as part of MCC's global IT team to provide support, training, and documentation for MCC IT software and systems to MCC users around the world.

For more information on these and other open positions, visit mcc.org/careers.

Relief Kits Needed

MCC is currently requesting donations of relief kits. Relief kits provide valuable supplies to families whose lives have been disrupted by war or disaster. This year, we are in need of 20,000 kits, almost 8,000 more than last year, to help meet the growing needs around the world, including our response to the Syrian refugee crisis. For more information, visit mcc.org/kits, or contact the Material Resources Center in Ephrata, PA, at (717) 733-2847 or EastCoastMRC@mcc.org.

Responding to Famine and Food Crisis

According to the United Nations, the world is facing the largest humanitarian crisis since World War II. More than 20 million people across Yemen, Somalia, South Sudan, and northeast Nigeria are facing or are at risk of famine. Mennonite Central Committee is working in some of these areas to provide emergency food assistance and to increase its response to the crisis. However, because of serious conflicts and concerns for safe, unimpeded access for humanitarian assistance, this process is slow and challenging. To donate to MCC's relief fund, which supports MCC's response to this disaster and others, visit mcc.org/learn/what/relief, call 1-888-563-4676, or send a check to MCC, PO Box 500, Akron, PA 17501-0500.

Be Part of a Work and Learn Team in Nairobi, Kenya: November 6-14

MCC is looking for a group of around five people who love working with children, can plan a mini vacation Bible school… and are excited about a trip to Africa! The children's programming and supervision of eight youth ages 11-17 and eight children ages 2-8 takes place during the November MCC Africa Team Meetings. The trip is a great way to see some of MCC's East Africa programming as well as do some sightseeing in the beautiful country of Kenya. Group commitment is needed by June. Approximate cost for the entire trip per person is $2,600. For more information, please contact Mimi Copp Johnson at MiriamCoppJohnson@mcc.org.
