Urgent Need for Housing and Supplies
There is an urgent need for housing and supplies for displaced families arriving in Lancaster from hurricane-devastated Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The School District of Lancaster received 16 new families in the last week alone and is asking for help from local churches as they face a housing crisis for many of these students. With colder weather approaching, the shelter system is full, and there are currently no sufficient shelter options for families or for single individuals with health issues. Some arrivals are staying with already over-burdened families. The winter shelter does not open until Dec. 1st. This is just the beginning of a huge influx of displaced persons who will be arriving to this area, as airlines are offering cheap one-way flights from Puerto Rico to Harrisburg and Philadelphia.

How you can help:
  • Offer housing for a family or individual
  • Donate supplies (Contact Jasmyne King, below, for specific needs)
  • Set up a temporary shelter in your church. (A tub of all the supplies needed for a temporary shelter will be provided. Volunteers would be needed to facilitate the shelter in shifts.)
To help, CONTACT: Jasmyne King, Coordinator for Families In Transition, at School District of Lancaster: jskingsmith@lancaster.k12.pa.us Office: 717-396-6829 Cell: 717-940-1875.

The EMM Chapel Committee Invites You!
Come hear Dr. Bree Keyton, who was delivered from drugs and Night Club life after being shot in the head and survived. She then  gave her life wholly to Jesus, who led her to the Congo to reach Pygmies with the good news.  In the face of being shot at with machine guns, attacked by black mambas, and many other unimaginable horrific conditions, she nevertheless trusted in the power of God and brought many entire communities of Pygmies to Jesus Christ. To date, more than 70,000 Pygmies have come to know Jesus Christ as Lord through her ministry, and she desperately wants to reach the remainder of those who are still left without Christ but are facing annihilation at the hands of warring armies. Bree's powerful stories of deliverance from attacks, seeing sick people delivered from the Ebola virus and seeing dead people raised to life will inspire and encourage. She will be speaking at EMM on Saturday October 28 at 6:30 pm.
Sponsored by the EMM Chapel Committee.

Launch is a cross-cultural discipleship training process that will equip you for your missions journey, wherever God takes you. Harmonies Workshop
Sing Colonial Hymns
The Foresingers are back! They will present a colonial hymns program Sunday, November 19, at 4:30 p.m., at the Community Mennonite Church of Lancaster, 328 West Orange Street, Lancaster.

The Foresingers formed in 1993 as a group of 12 select singers interested in American early music. Performing in historic sites and museums and academic conferences, they took the music to several states and Canada. They won cameo appearances in two PBS documentaries.

In celebration of having the score engraved this year, the group decided to gather again, including the piano, temple blocks, zither, flute, harp and bells. All are welcome to this free program.  Expect some audience participation.

These early tunes sung by ear were popular before singing schools taught harmony and hymnals printed notes. The music evokes a world of unison, slow mystery. When John Adams went to church in New York in 1774 he wrote to Abigail that the singing was "in the old way," with all the "dawdling and quavering."

A free will offering will help defray expenses.
