3 simple ways you can show support to children with Down syndrome

October is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month and this year Pennsylvanians have a simple and direct opportunity to express support for children with Down syndrome.

Nineteen State Senators, led by Senator Scott Martin (R-Lancaster) have sponsored Senate Resolution 174 (SR174), which calls for the respect and protection of children with Down syndrome in the wake of the CBS News report on Iceland "eradicating" Down syndrome babies by aborting them.

Here are three ways you can show support for children with Down syndrome.

1) Watch this video - A father from Lancaster County whose daughter has Down syndrome shared some insights in a recent interview. Click here to watch.

2) Share the video - This video presents an opportunity to provide more awareness and to help start a conversation surrounding abortion and children with Down syndrome.

3) Send an email to your State Senator on SR174 - To show your support for SR174, click here or go to tinyurl.com/SR174.

Will America End Late-Term Abortion? Thank Your Congressman & Connect with U.S. Senators Casey and Toomey

This week, Congress voted to pass the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act - which would limit abortion up to five months in pregnancy (20 weeks) and finally end late-term abortion.

The roll-call vote went 237-189 in favor of ending late-term abortion (hard to believe that 189 Congressmen would be against such a thing). The battle now moves to the U.S. Senate.

First, if you know who your Congressman is, we encourage you to call them to either thank them for their vote or to express your frustration with their no vote.

Here are the twelve PA Congressmen who voted YES to ending late-term abortion - please call and thank them for their YES vote:

These six PA Congressmen voted NO to ending late-term abortion - please call and respectfully voice your frustration with their NO vote:

Moving forward, this legislation now goes to the U.S. Senate. To urge our U.S. Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey to support ending late-term abortion, go to tinyurl.com/EndLateTermAbortion

80 State Representatives tell Governor Wolf to release EITC funding

One unnecessary fallout of the over-three month budget delay is harm towards children and families finding the best educational option. Currently, Governor Wolf is withholding approval letters for the EITC and OSTC programs that help thousands of families every year afford private or charter school tuition.

This week, 80 State Representatives held a press conference and signed a letter addressing this problem. A portion of this letter reads:

Beginning in mid-August 2017, House members began to hear from their constituents that the Department did not appear to be issuing timely tax credit approvals under the EITC and OSTC programs. When House staff inquired of the Department as to whether the approvals had, in fact, been delayed, House staff were initially told that approvals would be issued near Labor Day per an email dated August 15,2017. Letters still were not issued in mid-September. On September l9th, House staff were told during a phone conversation that approval letters were being processed but that there continued to be a delay in the sending of approvals which was caused only by a staffing shortage at the Department. During that conversation, the Department expected the letters would be released within l0 to 14 days. Much to our surprise, during a phone conversation with DCED on September 28th, we were told the approvals were not being sent because the Governor did not believe it was prudent to do so without a revenue package.

As the budget debate continues, if you have not already, we encourage you to tell your elected officials to expand these proven, cost-saving programs: tinyurl.com/ExpandEITC

Statement on PA Congressman Tim Murphy

The following is a written response from PFI President Michael Geer to the news of Western PA Congressman Tim Murphy urging a woman with whom he had an affair with to have an abortion:

We are deeply saddened by this news, and the painful impact both families involved are now experiencing. But this shows even more the need to protect life from the tempting solution to cover up one wrong with another – the killing of an unwanted child by abortion.

Sadly, abortionists and their allies have long helped politicians and laymen alike cover up their misconduct by taking an innocent human life; and countless women have been cruelly pressured to do so.

Congressman Murphy has since announced his resignation effective October 21st. There will be a special election for his Congressional seat. A date for this special election will be determined by Governor Tom Wolf.
