| | | New Legislation Announced Today by Senator Ward to Keep Abortion out of Pennsylvania's Constitution Today, PA State Senator Judy Ward (R-Blair County) circulated a co-sponsorship memo to her fellow State Senators announcing her proposal of legislation to keep abortion out of Pennsylvania's constitution through a constitutional amendment. This is the action brought up at the first-ever Pennsylvania March for Life this past September. "The abortion industry is asking the court to declare a right to abortion and a right to taxpayer funding of abortion in Pennsylvania's constitution. If the court declares such rights, all of Pennsylvania's laws that protect the life and health of mothers and preborn children by regulating abortion are in danger of being subsequently struck down. ..... In order to prevent Pennsylvania's abortion laws from being struck down, I am proposing a simple amendment to the Pennsylvania Constitution clarifying that there is no right to an abortion or abortion funding within Pennsylvania's constitution. This amendment is designed to maintain our laws regulating abortion and preventing the taxpayer funding of elective abortion." | | | Senate Committee Advances Bills Prioritizing Parental Role in Students' Education Sen. Scott Martin (R-13), the chair of the Senate Education Committee, and other members of the committee voted to advance a legislative package that would prioritize the role of parents and guardians in the educational process and give them greater control as they advocate for their children. "Our teachers do a phenomenal job educating our children, but undoubtedly, the best advocates for students are their parents or guardians. The bills the committee advanced today will pave the way for a partnership between the two, providing students with the strongest foundation for success," Sen. Martin said. The ballot measure called upon the state legislature to "decriminalize, regulate, and tax the use, and sale to adults aged 21 years or older" of marijuana for recreational use and many promoting this ballot initiative, including Ballotpedia, labeled this as the "Decriminalize Marijuana Amendment." These summaries downplay the legislation, when in reality it goes far past decriminalization to the full state-endorsed commercialized sale of an addictive and harmful drug. Governor Wolf's administration is appealing the ruling. We will continue to keep you updated. | | | Planned Parenthood Administering Cross-Sex Hormones, Put Profit over Patient Health & Safety As we wrote about recently, Planned Parenthood Keystone – one of Pennsylvania's largest abortion providers – has begun offering hormone replacement treatment. At present, they claim that these services are only being offered to people over the age of 18. However, for years, doctors and activists have been working to expand the age range for people to be given cross-sex hormones. Planned Parenthood seems more interested in advocating for so-called gender transition—including among teenagers—than they do in helping people feel more comfortable in their own bodies. Keystone networks teens as young as 14 with pro-LGBT youth organizations, and encourages people under 18 to call their "Patient Navigators" for advice when seeking cross-sex hormones. As recent reporting by journalist and author Abigail Shrier demonstrates, these in-house staff members at other Planned Parenthood locations have little training. They are also encouraged to use inflexible scripts that focus on gender dysphoria to the exclusion of all other psychological issues a teenager may be struggling with that may be the cause of their problems.
