Extraordinary Give! (November 19, 2021)
On this special day, the largest day of generosity in Lancaster County, we hope you'll include Eastern Mennonite Missions in your extraordinary giving. We believe that the love of Christ has the power to transform lives and that this love compels us to fulfill our mission of crossing cultures, engaging the world, and making disciples of Jesus. Gifts made through the Extraordinary Give tomorrow help support EMM's Impact Fund, the fund that enables us to do this work in our community and around the world.

New this year! EMM staff have been celebrating the abundant love of God throughout this week and have been collecting food items for Water Street's Thanksgiving meal as a way to multiply that love in our community. We'd love to invite you to join us in this expression of gratitude and love for our neighbors. On your way, downtown for the ExtraGive festivities in Lancaster City, swing through EMM's parking lot at 450 North Prince Street between 4 and 7 p.m., drop off some food items from the list below, and pick up a little goody bag.

Food items:
  • Turkey (8–12 lbs.)
  • Ham or bacon
  • Canned tuna or chicken
  • Veggies (fresh, canned, or frozen)
  • Sugar (5 lbs.)
  • Salad Dressing and Condiments
  • Butter
  • Cheese (any kind)
  • Potatoes
Opportunity to Give: Mark your calendars for Friday, November 19. Any giving to Landis Communities & Welsh Mountain Home on that day will see the amount STRETCHED by a pool of more than half a MILLION dollars from the Lancaster County Community Foundation and other sponsors! Mark your calendars and get ready to give EXTRA on November 19. All giving is online at https://www.extragive.org/

Did you know 70% of people who are giving care to family members as they age have to miss time from work and the average out-of-pocket expenses is more than $10,000? Research has shown having a plan for how you want to be cared for, even by family members, can ease emotional, financial, and physical stress on those who are giving care.  Find more information including a checklist to help think through the options at https://www.genworth.com/aging-and-you/family/caregiving.html. Landis Communities is always available for conversations on what option is best for you.  Connect at https://www.landiscommunities.org/contact/ or call 717-381-3500.

The No Longer Alone Family Support Group, supported by Landis Communities, meets on the fourth Sunday of every month. The November date has been adjusted to the third Sunday due to Thanksgiving.  The guest speaker for November will be January Abel, COO, Certified Peer Specialist/Supervisor at Recovery InSight Inc.  Her presentation on "Overview of the Wellness Recovery and Action Plan (WRAP)" will be followed by a time of sharing. The public meeting is scheduled for Sunday, November 21, 2021, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. by Zoom. Meetings will be held via Zoom until further notice and will return to Landis Communities as soon as possible.  The monthly meetings provide a place for those who have a loved one living with mental illness to learn and share their experiences. For information on joining the Zoom meeting or to receive a monthly meeting reminder, call 717-381-3599 or email JAlbright@landis.org by noon on Friday, November 19.

Landis Communities is glad to offer, at no cost, educational sessions for congregations wanting to learn more about topics related to aging.  Recently several presentations have centered around how congregations can support members as they experience memory loss. To learn more, contact Director of Communications/Engagement Larry Guengerich at (717) 381-3526 or LGuengerich@landis.org for more information.

Landis at Home and Landis Adult Day Services both have significant lists of clients who would like their services.  If you know persons with a heart for serving others who might be interested in working as Home Care Aides, Van Drivers, or Program Assistants, please encourage them to check out LandisCareers.org and look at the current openings.

Landis Homes has Residential Suites to rent.  Suites offer an option for people who want meals, housekeeping, laundry, and an emergency call system included in the monthly rent with no entrance fee. They have convenient indoor access to community areas like the dining room, general store, and chapel. For more information, please Contact the Residency Planning team at residencyplanning@landis.org or call 717-581-3935.
