Adopt-a-Shingle! Want to be a part of preserving history? The Herr House's roof is over 20 years old and in need of a replacement. Mennonite Life is committed to re-roofing the house with over 7,000 new, hand-cut red oak shingles. We invite you to join us by "adopting" one or more of these shingles, at $100 each. Visit https://mennonitelife.org/get-involved/donate-money/ for a look at the shingle-making process, and the opportunity to adopt a shingle. The Martyrs Mirror plays a significant role in Anabaptist history, and a long-held respect for the book has led to the careful preservation of its many editions. Join us on Thursday, November 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the Mennonite Life Community Room for a special Collections Feature on this book. The event will showcase Dutch and German printings of the Martyrs Mirror dating back to the first edition published in 1660, and related early imprints from Mennonite Life's rare book collection. Mennonite Life Archivist & Librarian Julia Wiker will provide an overview of the Martyrs Mirror's editions, and David Fuchs will speak on the book's 1748 Ephrata Cloister printing. This dramatic chapter in the history of the book is summarized in the June 2023 issue of Mennonite Life's newsletter, "The Mirror." The event features a rare condensed version of the Martyrs Mirror published in 1722 and very recently added to our collection, an early 1700s book of 115 illustrated plates of martyrs, and an original copper plate used in printing the 1685 illustrated edition of the book. Reserve your complimentary seat at this event by October 27 at https://mennonitelife.org/events/. Mennonite Life's vision is diverse communities connecting across boundaries by knowing and valuing their own and each other's stories of life, faith, cultures, and histories. | | Want to know more about LMC events?
