Eastern Mennonite Missions
Hub 450 volunteer opportunities
Things are beginning to come alive at our downstairs community space at Hub 450. No longer do you need to get on an airplane to serve cross-culturally ... the nations are coming to us!

We are excited to partner with the local community and church to create a space of welcome and refuge for the immigrant/refugee community here in Lancaster. As new initiatives are being launched, we invite you to be a part of this new venture. If you have an interest in volunteering at the Hub 450 space or helping to launch your own vision here, please reach out to us and we will continue to send you updates about how you can be involved.

Some upcoming opportunities include:

  • Tutor at an afterschool program for refugee youth

  • Build relationships with refugee women over coffee and tea

  • Help run creativity programs that use art and storytelling to bring healing and understanding across cultures

  • Or if you want to help launch new initiatives or have another creative idea to serve the community here at Hub 450, we would love to hear from you

If you want to receive ongoing communication about volunteer opportunities at Hub 450, simply reply to this email.

Vision and fundraising banquet
Join us for the EMM banquet!

November 4
6 p.m. in person
7 p.m. via live stream
Join us for this year's banquet, called "Come and See" based on Psalm 66:5, "Come and see what God has done, his awesome deeds for mankind!"

The banquet is being offered two ways: in person for a smaller group and also online, live-streamed to everyone who wants to join us from anywhere in the world! Like every banquet, you'll have an opportunity to hear some incredible stories of God's work around the world.

You'll also have an opportunity to partner with us. Your generosity will help us continue to carry out our mission of crossing cultures, engaging the world, and making disciples of Jesus.

Join us on Thursday, November 4, at 6 p.m. in person or 7 p.m. for the live stream on our websiteFacebook, or YouTube pages. The first 30 groups of 8 or more people who register for the live stream will be able to get a free watch party bag with appetizers, desserts, and more.

Registrations are required for the in-person event due to space limitations, but aren't required to join the live stream. However, we encourage you to register so we can send you reminders and information about the event!

Did you know 70% of people who are giving care to family members as they age have to miss time from work and the average out-of-pocket expenses is more than $10,000? Research has shown having a plan for how you want to be cared for, even by family members, can ease emotional, financial, and physical stress on those who are giving care.  Find more information including a checklist to help think through the options at https://www.genworth.com/aging-and-you/family/caregiving.html. Landis Communities is always available for conversations on what option is best for you.  Connect at https://www.landiscommunities.org/contact/ or call 717-381-3500.

Landis at Home and Landis Adult Day Services both have significant lists of clients who would like their services.  If you know persons with a heart for serving others who might be interested in working as Home Care Aides, Van Drivers, or Program Assistants, please encourage them to check out LandisCareers.org and look at the current openings.

The No Longer Alone Family Support Group, now supported by Landis Communities, will continue to meet on the fourth Sunday of every month.  The guest speaker for October will be James L. The public meeting is scheduled for Sunday, October 24, 2021, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. by Zoom. Meetings will be held via Zoom until further notice and will return to Landis Communities as soon as possible.
