Aevidum Mission Trip!

Guyana

Our mission team of  seven  just got back from the country of Guyana!  Per Capita, Guyana has the highest suicide rate in the world.  There are many reasons for that, but we need to ask, what can we do to make a difference?  Our team consists of five students, a young adult, and myself.  We visited numerous schools and shared that every person matters; that every person needs to feel like they are accepted, appreciated, acknowledged, and cared for.  We handed out wristbands that have the words "Aevidum, I've Got Your back" printed on them.  We got a chance to encourage students to stay strong, show them the love of Christ in in us, and commit to building each other up!
We spoke to numerous schools all over the country; sharing with students the hope found in Jesus, praying with them, and leading some to Christ!

What makes your community great?!  Is it the architecture?  Is it the clean streets?  Since 2008, small communities (as well as large ones) have been hit hard from the economic down-turn.  Many communities were not prepared to handle the greater needs of homelessness, hunger, healthcare.   REAL Youth was started to reach at-risk youth but developed a larger focus to meet these needs.
In 2013, we partnered with Power Packs Project and become their Cocalico Affiliate to address the hunger issue.  We tripled the number of families we serve since then, and in 2016 we're serving over 45 families.  In 2014 we acquired the Denver Bible Church for a youth center.  In 2015 we opened a transitional home for moms coming out of the shelter.

We felt good about what we were able to do, but God wasn't done.  "There are still needs in our community that aren't being met", says Executive Director Rod Redcay, "Just this past week, three different moms contacted us asking for affordable housing.  This is nothing new, this has become normal."  What do we do?  Where do they go?  Who can help them?

Rod's Ramblings

I recently got my wife a beautiful heart shape pendant with a shimmering diamond in the middle!  It was the most expensive piece of jewelry I had gotten her since her engagement ring upgrade a few years ago.  She loved it and wore it all the time.  Only two weeks after I got it for her she told me the pendant fell off and she couldn't find it anywhere.  Now, I could have yelled at her, shamed her, or at least lectured her.  But, I valued our marriage more than expensive jewelry.  I knew that whether we found that pendant or not, our love was not lost.  It takes work to keep a marriage strong.  We can easily show everyone how pretty marriage is, but if we aren't careful to protect it, we could lose it.  Now, by God's grace & a quick prayer, I found the pendant the first place I looked.  If you lost your marriage, seek to find it again.  Like a lost diamond, it's worth searching for!

Lighthouse Youth Center

The Lighthouse has become a place of refuge for some.  Every week we see young people come in excited to hang out with their friends and leave just a bit more encouraged.  There is a greater need to connect to even more youth.  That is why we have expanded our Tuesday night program to include 7th & 8th Graders.

Single parents need encouragement too.  That is why we have asked a single mom, who has been through our parenting program, to lead a Support Group for Single Parents!  Starting April 7th, REAL will be hosting an evening of refreshing food and conversation for anyone who feels the need to connect w/ other single parents in the Cocalico area!

Stop in any 1st & 3rd Thursdays at the Courtyard CafĂ© in Denver, from 6:30 – 8pm.  Check out our website, or call us for more information 717-368-7133.

We cannot do this without your support!
