Congolese counter violence with prayer and workshops

In late 2016, leaders from the Mennonite national churches in DR Congo requested prayer from Mennonite World Conference because presidential elections had been postponed, exacerbating tensions between citizens and government. Some incidents of violence occurred before the intended election date, but destruction was less than had been anticipated.

Dialogues on baptism close with learning and prayer

Representatives of the Catholic Church (Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity), the Lutheran World Federation, and the Mennonite World Conference met in Augsburg, Germany, 9–14 February 2017, for the fifth meeting of the Trilateral Dialogue Commission on Baptism. The meeting in Augsburg concluded a five-year dialogue process.

Praise the Lord for church workers called to serve brothers and sisters around the world. March 2017: MWC Deacons Commission secretary Henk Stenvers, who visited Anabaptist churches in Ecuador in January 2017, calls for prayer for Ecuador. The cities of Manta and Portoviejo were particularly affected by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that shook the country in April 2016, killing hundreds and injuring thousands; pray for the congregations who are bringing material aid and trauma healing strategies to assist people affected by the disaster. Pray also for members of Iglesia Evangélica Menonita Ecuatoriana (IEME) who lost homes and family in the disaster. Read more...
