These words, spoken by Paul to the people in the city of Athens, are not typically quoted during Christmastime. However, they seem rather fitting, considering the fact that Jesus' incarnation was all about establishing a kingdom that was far greater than any other kingdom in the world. While Jesus never ministered outside of Judaea, his disciples went on to carry the gospel to the ends of the Roman Empire and possibly even beyond.
In the stairwell of our central office building in Lancaster, there is a Christmas tree — next to the tree, we have this passage from Acts, so that people can read it and reflect on this message. We decorated the tree to serve as a reminder that God loves all people and his desire is that everyone would find him. The tree includes a number of flags from around the world, along with photographs representing a small sample of more than 7,000 different ethnolinguistic people groups from around the world.
This Christmas, we invite you to join us in praying for all people to come to know God's love, and that they will learn to follow Jesus. This is our calling to come along with God's mission to bring his children close to him.
May you have a blessed Christmas! Eastern Mennonite Missions |
