Call to Action

Dear Friends,

As many of you know, there are currently more than 65 million displaced people worldwide.  Amidst the largest refugee crisis since WWII, the United States is on track to receive 85,000 newly arrived refugees in fiscal year 2016. In proportion to the United States population size, being the wealthiest country, and one of the most influential in the world, CWS stands beside President Obama's decision to advocate an increase of newly arriving refugees to the US. In the upcoming fiscal year 2017, beginning October 1st, the US is considering the admission of 100,000 refugees—an increase of 15,000 individuals. Yet bills have been introduced to Congress that will decrease or flatline funding for refugee resettlement for FY2017.

Keeping a flat rate budget would severely limit the resources and protection that resettlement agencies provide to refugees in the United States. We are calling on you to raise your voice, as you have done so enthusiastically in the past, and tell Congress to ensure an increase in funding for refugee resettlement, rather than proceeding into the new fiscal year with a flat rate budget pass.

You can help by calling the legislators who represent you in Congress! Scroll down to see the number to call to reach your Senators and Representative. There is also a script of what to say during your phone call, if you need it.

If you're not able to call, we have a postcard made out for your convenience to sign! Click here to sign the postcard!

Thank you for your support of refugees, not only in Lancaster and Central Pennsylvania but across our nation. And, as always, we will continue to keep you updated on this situation.

Gratefully,

The Interfaith Immigration Coalition has provided the following information:

CALL YOUR SENATOR & REPRESENTATIVE TODAY
1-866-940-2439 – Representative
1-866-961-4293 – Senators

Here's a sample of what to say:

"I support refugee resettlement and want to see the U.S. resettle more refugees.

I urge Congress to increase funding for refugee assistance internationally and refugee resettlement in the U.S.

The U.S. should stop detaining and deporting Central American refugees, and should instead ensure they have full, meaningful access to protection and asylum."

You can also tweet your Senators and Representatives, as well as the White House:

".@SENATOR/REPRESENTATIVE, show that #AmericaWelcomes by supporting increased funds to resettle #refugees! #RefugeesWelcome #RCUSAfor200K"

".@WhiteHouse Stop detaining & deporting Central American kids & families who need PROTECTION. #RefugeesWelcome"
