Agreement On The Denver House!

It has been 18 months in the making, but we have finally been able to come to an agreement with First National Bank for the purchase of the Denver House property!  Partnering with LHOP (Lancaster Housing Opportunity Partnership), REAL Life Community Services will be in the driver's seat to set forth their vision to renovate the building to provide affordable apartments and offer a community service "Hub".  Welsh Mountain Medical Centers will offer medical, dental services, and behavior health counseling!

This could not have been done without the tenacious work of LHOP's CEO, Ray D'Agostino, and his team!  We know the work isn't done yet!  We still need to raise the approximately $100,000 to acquire the property and then put in almost $1.5 million to renovate the building and excavate the grounds to install 30+ parking spaces.  With your help, and that of many construction volunteers, we know we can make this dream a reality in no time!

If you want to learn more about the Denver House Collective Impact Project, give to the project, or to volunteer your time for you or your church after the New Year, please contact rod@realym.org

Rod's Ramblings

WOW, I am blown away at how God is working things out in our community!  With the verbal agreement to acquire the Denver House, this vision has become quite REAL!  Did you see what I did there?!  We have many issues affecting our community, and it takes a collaboration to bring about REAL change!  So we're leading the way and saying, we're "All In"!  Would you partner with us?!

Thank You!

Due to your generosity, we met and exceeded our summer fund-raising goal! We are blessed to have wonderful supporters of the ministry who believe in what God wants to do in the Denver community.  Lives continue to be impacted and changed on a daily basis.  The ministry continues to be able to expand it's vision and sow more into the lives around us.  Your financial support and prayers make this possible.
Thank you!

Social Services Added to R.E.A.L
By: Chris Hibbert

As with anything he does, Rodney jumped into adding social services to his ministry wholeheartedly and that included having me jump in with him as a social worker.  Since joining REAL Life Community Services in July, I have been in contact with four families who have needed various services.  I have met with each of the families and continue to meet with some of them.  In my work with the families, I have given rides to workplaces and to Tabor Community Services in Lancaster.  I have delivered food and gas cards to families.  I have made referrals for families and given them phone numbers and websites for service providers.  I have been scouring the internet for affordable housing for two families, one of whom is homeless and I call them when I find possible fits.  If you see me driving slowly, I have probably spotted a For Rent sign!  I have also researched and created a list of social service providers that will be posted on the HUB section of the REAL Life website in hopes that community members will be able to use it for themselves and to help others.  My prayer is that people of Denver will come together to meet the needs of its own and that REAL Life Community Services will be the catalyst.  I enjoy working with families and I look forward to expanding our services.  Please let community members know that we are here to help!
Youth Center

By: Julie Sheidy

Lighthouse Youth Ministry was, up until recently, just a curious bright blue door on an old church building in Denver, PA. It caught my eye each time I visited my nephew in the Denver House. Never in my wildest dreams could I imagine that God would ask me to step outside of my comfort zone and serve the youth there. Over the past three months, what seemed at first like chaos, noise, and rough housing has grown into a loving family. I am beginning to see these youth through the eyes of Jesus.

Unlike other youth groups where I served as a volunteer, I found these teens to be open and honest and willing to share their some of their wounds, doubts, fears, emotional and physical struggles. They have given me permission to be REAL and share my struggles as well. This is the first time I've been involved in a ministry where I look forward to running toward the lost and sharing God's love.

Recently, one young woman asked if she could share her testimony. What a courageous request. It was on an evening where the topic of discussion was going to be about IDENTITY and what it means to be IN CHRIST. She looked at me and grinned from ear to ear and said,
"How fitting? We couldn't have planned it any better. That's what I want to talk about."
No planned lesson could have been greater than what Jesus had planned for us as she shared. Needless to say, I reminded the group that this was not planned or scripted and I was thanking God for messing up my lesson because I knew He had something greater in store.

Jeremiah 29:11 – "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

The young woman sat on the small stage and started her story. One by one, friends in the group came to the stage and sat beside her. Everyone was quiet as she spoke. All eyes were riveted on her. Teens normally silent and reserved, shared, supported and encouraged her. Love was palpable in the air.

I imagined this must have been what it was like when Jesus met with friends; spending time sitting, talking, eating and sharing life and offering HOPE and LOVE. There will be another time to share the lesson plan. It is with assurance and rejoicing that I say, "God's will was done on this evening." I look forward with anticipation to how God will use this evening.

Philippians 1:6 - "Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
Amen and AMEN!
