Happy Thanksgiving!

Greetings to you and your family as you gather this week to give thanks for family, friends, and for all the abundant blessings given to us by God. May your celebrations be filled with joy and peace. Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Shine!
Looking ahead to the Winter quarter

Age Group SamplesThe Winter 2016-17 quarter includes the Advent and Christmas season, and then explores the life and teachings of Jesus as told in the book of Matthew. Children will have the opportunity to memorize the Beatitudes from Jesus' well-known Sermon on the Mount. Teachers and children will enjoy parables about wise builders and treasure seekers, and reflect on what it means to love an enemy. With stories from Nazareth, Bethlehem, Egypt, the desert, a mountainside, the Jordan River, and the Sea of Galilee, you won't want to miss these journeys with Jesus!

If you haven't, you can still place an order for the Winter quarter. Click here if your order will be delivered to an American address or here if it will go to a Canadian address.

You can easily find links to all media connections for the Winter quarter on our Pinterest board:  Winter 2016-17: Journeys with Jesus.  Enjoy these additional resource ideas!
Build community

Sunday school should be a safe and welcoming place for everyone. Teachers play a big role in making children feel loved and comfortable, and that can happen as soon as the child walks in the door. That's why Building community is such an important part of a Shine session. Saying a child's name, making eye contact, and sharing a smile can help set a welcoming tone that will have a positive impact on the rest of the session. Building community is a time where children learn hospitality and respect for you and one another. At times, the activity may connect with the Bible story, but its main purpose is to foster interaction and community within the group. How do you build community within your Sunday school group? Share your experiences with us on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/ShineCurriculum.

Tell us what you think

As the fall quarter wraps up later this month, we invite you to take a few minutes to complete the evaluation form on the inside back cover of your teachers guide or on our website.

We are eager to hear what went well and suggestions you might have to improve the curriculum. We like to know what parts of the session plan you find especially helpful and what trends you see in your congregational setting that we should know for future planning. Your feedback is very important to us as we work to make Shine curriculum helpful in building a solid foundation of faith for the children in your care.

Please send any hard copy evaluations to us by mail to: Shine Curriculum, 1251 Virginia Avenue, Harrisonburg, VA, 22802. Electronic versions of the evaluation form can be found, completed, and submitted online at www.ShineCurriculum.com/evaluationform.
