It only takes one person, and the Spirit of God, to change eternity for many others.
Amara is your average busy mother. She's raising three children with her husband, who works as a carpenter. There's nothing particularly special or outstanding in her life…apart from her unshakeable faith in Jesus Christ.
Like many in her community in India, Amara was born and raised Hindu. Her extended family, her in-laws, and most of her neighbors were too. Those who weren't Hindu were primarily Muslim. So, she had little knowledge of Jesus Christ until one day, she met a pastor who gave her a Bible. Amara was curious, so she began to read the Bible. The more she read, the more she wanted to know, and the Holy Spirit moved in her heart and she put her faith in Jesus as her Savior.
What a radical choice! Amara's family initially challenged her, but they took notice as the Spirit of God changed her heart and her actions. Between her transformed life and her eagerness to share the Gospel, Amara's husband, children and family soon accepted Jesus as their Savior too.
Amara wanted to do more to serve the Lord and see her community know Jesus. The opportunity to participate in a discipleship-mission program affiliated with Global Disciples came up and she jumped at the chance! She focused her outreach on her community of 3,000 people, where she knew most people had little or no knowledge of Jesus Christ.
So how does a busy wife and mother strategically reach out with the Gospel? Especially among her Hindu and Muslim neighbors, and with radical elements that threaten her and other followers of Christ?
Well, Amara keeps it simple. She knows that most families struggle with some problem—troubled children, alcoholism, chronic illness, abuse, destructive habits, rocky relationships, even demon-possession, which is common in her region.
She takes the time to listen, relating to their struggles and needs, and offering counsel from God's Word. She prays with and for each person. As others see her kindly compassion and experience God's healing power, have relationships restored, or are released from demons and spiritual oppression, they understand the power and love of Jesus Christ, and welcome the Gospel she shares.
In just six months, about 25 people came to faith in Jesus through Amara's witness. A small fellowship now meets in her home each day to study the Bible, to pray, and to be discipled.
Amara is only one person, but with the help of the Holy Spirit, she's bringing the hope of the Good News of Jesus to her neighbors and community and making a difference for eternity.
